 Note on Libraries' Access Policies

 The Northwestern Libraries' access policies were created to ensure that each patron may borrow materials for a time period long enough to accomplish needed academic tasks yet short enough to ensure that materials are available to other members of the university community who may wish to use them.
 

 


To borrow materials from the Northwestern Libraries:

 

  •  All students, staff, and faculty need a current university ID

 

  •  Members of the Friends of the NW Libraries need a current courtesy card

 

  • Citizens of the Third Congressional District (includes those individuals 16 years of age and older) need a valid Oklahoma photo identification to check out government documents 

 

  • Faculty, staff, and students from an OK-Share member institution may borrow materials from the Northwestern Libraries with a valid OK-Share courtesy card.  [For more information about the OK-Share program click here or call the library at Alva (327-8574) or Enid (213-3141).]

Presented below are item limits and periods arranged by patron type.  Under certain circumstances, librarians and/or full-time library staff members may make exceptions to these limits.  Call either library to renew your materials during normal hours or log onto your library account.

Courtesy and overdue notices are sent to patrons via the university's rangers e-mail addresses.  Failure to receive and/or read such an electronic notice is not grounds for reduction or cancellation of bills.

Items which are 30 days overdue will be considered lost.  At this point either a replacement price for the item(s) will be determined by the libraries' staff or a default price of $25.00 will be levied for each lost item.  If the item(s) is returned within 30 days of the date the bill was paid, the patron may request that the replacement cost be refunded.  All patrons who have outstanding bills will be blocked from checking out materials, and a hold will be placed on their account in the Registry Office. This can prevent you from enrolling, receiving a copy of your grades, or acquiring a copy of your transcript even several years later! To inquire about holds on your account, please contact either library.



 INTERLIBRARY LOAN (ILL) POLICIES & PROCEDURES

 If you need a book or article that NW Libraries doesn't have - there is still HOPE!

The book or article might be available from another library!  Fill out this form and submit it.

A member of the libraries' staff will let you know if the book or article will be sent to NW. 

 

 
Instruction and Tours 

NWOSU Libraries are available to any faculty member who wishes to bring a class to either library for a general overview or subject specific tour.  These tours include informational handouts and a general introduction to the use of materials and electronic databases.    

The libraries' staff is also available to help both classes and individuals with their research needs.  Contact your campus library for additional information or to schedule an instructional session.

OK-SHARE LIBRARY CARD PROGRAM  

OK-Share is a cooperative program among Oklahoma's college and university (both private and public) libraries which allow higher education students, faculty, and staff to borrow library materials from any OK-Share library.  For a complete listing of OK-Share member libraries see the OK-Share Directory.  Each library sets its own policies for OK-Share patrons, so borrowing privileges may differ from those at Northwestern.  For information on how to obtain an OK-Share card contact a Northwestern Library.


Children in the Northwestern Libraries

The Northwestern Libraries' collections and services were developed for its community of academic users; therefore, not all materials are appropriate for K-12 students.  The libraries operate within an adult, unsupervised environment.  The library staff is not responisble for unsupervised children.  Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, adult care-giver, or under the supervision of a public school or university sponsored activity which has been arranged with the library staff prior to use.

 
Challenges to Library Materials

The librarians and staff of the Northwestern Libraries support freedom of speech in accordance with the United States Constitution and the guidelines of the American Library Association (ALA).  All materials in the libraries have been selected using established criteria; therefore, some materials may be offensive to some individuals.  For further reading, see the:
