I know the 99' team was inducted into the hall of fame along with coach Albin in February, but I would like to see the 99' team recognized at half-time or before the homecoming game for a 10 year anniversary. I know not all of the guys were able to make it to the hall of fame induction. If NWOSU is going to do something like that, we need to get the word out so the guys that live a long way away can get travel arrangements. I know some of the guys are coaches, but I would still love to see as many of the guys as I could.

What ever happened to receptions at the Student Center for returning alumni? There are those of us who are older (70) and would like to see something beside a chance to eat a meal out in the open after the parade. I graduated in '71 and '75 and have come to believe that the planners for the homecoming activities have disregarded those of us who are older. Maybe we are not worth the effort anymore.

Arlie – thank you for your post to our Homecoming discussion page. Let me assure you that our alumni are invaluable to Northwestern.

Homecoming is a wonderful and busy multi-day event, with many activities being managed by a number of University and Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association individuals. Alumni return to participate in the band and cheerleading activities at the game, to recognize Miss Cinderella contestants and to applaud area high school bands as they join the community for Homecoming. Affinity groups – former football teams, baseball alumni, theatre alumni and others – continue to hold their own activities. The last few reunions planned for returning alumni at Homecoming saw less to no alumni in attendance. We then made the decision to focus our resources where alumni tend to gather, specifically on the downtown square.

Another event during the year brings our alumni back to campus. Every spring we reserve the last Saturday in April for Spring Alumni Reunion. This is a day in which we dedicate all resources to celebrate the accomplishments and journeys of our alumni. We honor our graduates celebrating their 25th, 50th, 60th and 70th commencement anniversaries. We also pay tribute to those individuals who are receiving Outstanding Graduate recognition in the categories of Art, Business/Professional, Education, Humanitarian, Ranger Spirit and Ranger Recognition. Nominations for Outstanding Graduates for 2017 are now open; we would welcome a nomination from you regarding a Northwestern alum who needs to be recognized. Nominations can be made at https://my.nwfoundation.com/nominate-an-outstanding-graduate.

All alumni – regardless of graduation year – are welcome to share the day with us, and many do return to celebrate Northwestern and the impact their alma mater has had on their lives. Please mark April 29th on your calendar; we would look forward to catching up with you.

With warm regards,

John Allen
Director, Alumni Relations
