Leadership Institute searches for 2009 Academy for Educational Excellence

Thirty scholarships in the amount of $500, will be awarded to public school teachers who apply with the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center Leadership Institute (CSRHC) by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 24, and enroll for a special leadership course at Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid.

Applications must be delivered to Andi Holland, CSRHC President, at P.O. Box 5891, Enid, OK, 73702.

Eligible candidates must be employed as an educator in a K-12 school system, public or private, or have completed a bachelor’s degree in education in the past 18 months and are seeking a first-time teaching position. First preference will be given to Oklahoma residents.

To apply for the scholarship, the following documents must be submitted:

o Letter of recommendation from a school administrator in your system
o Current resume
o Official transcripts from undergraduate degree and graduate courses if applicable
o Completed application form

All scholarship award winners must enroll in Northwestern’s summer course “Leadership Across the Curriculum.”

Class dates are May 26-29, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. During this class, students will learn about America’s legacy of leadership based on the experiences of the founding fathers.

Scholarships will cover the cost of tuition, fees and course materials. Funding will be sent directly to the university’s business office on behalf of the student.

“The CSRHC and Northwestern follow the same mission of leadership,” Cheryl Evans, dean of Northwestern-Enid, said. “Through this partnership, the CSRHC and Northwestern have the opportunity to better prepare educators and students in leadership.”

All applicants will be notified on or before May 1, about selection. Winners must return a signed acceptance form to Holland and process enrollment and registration at Northwestern by May 15, to confirm award and reserve a place in the class.
