Lady Rangers win all three games at Friends Tournament

WICHITA, Kan. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University softball team swept three games at the Friends Tournament on Sunday afternoon. Northwestern defeated Bethany 9-4, McPherson 11-3 and Bethel 6-0.

Game One - Box Score

The speed at the top of the Lady Ranger order has proven to be a strength early and they made life tough on Bethany early in a 9-4 win.

Jasmine Braxton reached on an error to start the game and Cheyenne Terry reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on first and second. Megan Bourdon's sacrifice bunt turned in to gold for Northwestern as Bethany's defense threw the ball away allowing Braxton to score.

Glenn stole home as Bourdon was caught stealing second base to give the Lady Rangers a 2-0 lead.

Bethany scored three times in the fifth inning, but Kylee Wilson's run scoring double knotted the game at three.

Northwestern opened the game up with a six-run sixth inning where the rangers had four hits. The biggest of the bunch came from pinch hitter Jayci Wehrenburg, who doubled home two runs.

Starting pitcher Kellie Mason settled down from there allowing just one more unearned run to pick up the win. Mason threw a complete game while striking out six hitters.

Alyssa Taylor was the only Lady Ranger hitter with two hits in the game.

Game Two - Box Score

Northwestern used a four-run first to catapult to an 11-3 win over McPherson in the second game of the day. The one-two punch of Braxton and Terry got on base and scored to start the game. The pair combined to score five of Northwestern's 11 runs in the game.

Braxton scored on a double by Taylor, one of three hits she had in the game, and Terry scored on a double by Monique Zevada.

Terry delivered a two run single in the third inning as part of a four-run inning that saw the Lady Ranger lead inflate to 9-3. Bourdon delivered a single to end the game by run rule in the sixth inning.

Braxton, much like Mason, turned in a solid performance in the circle for head coach Cody Hooper giving up just three earned runs all coming in the third inning. She struck out four batters and scattered six hits.

Braxton, Glenn, Taylor and Terry all had multiple hits for Northwestern (7-4, 0-2 Sooner Athletic Conference).

Game Three - Box Score

Ashton Fitzgerald had the best performance of all the Ranger pitchers throwing a complete game shutout in a 6-0 win against Bethel. Fitzgerald gave up just three hits all game long while fanning five hitters.

Small ball gave Bethel problems in the third inning. Cheyenne Harper reached on an error and Braxton's speed forced an error on a sacrifice bunt to put runners on first and second. Terry sacrificed the runners to second and third for Bourdon who hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

Ali Seibel smoked a ball over the right field fence in to a wind that was howling in to put Northwestern up 3-0.

Monica Jaramillo doubled to lead off the fourth and immediately stole third. Kelsey Ingram's sacrifice fly put Northwestern up 4-0.

The Lady Rangers added one in the fifth on a Seibel's groundout and another in the sixth with the help of a Bethel miscue.

Taylor had two doubles for the Lady Rangers while Jaramillo had a triple and a double.

The Lady Rangers play tomorrow in Moore against Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College with 1 p.m. as the designated time for the first pitch.
