Northwestern's Institutional Review Board
A faculty member planning to conduct research on human subjects should first prepare a Review of Human Participants Research Form to be approved by the Internal Review Board. The Institutional Review Board/Independent Ethics Committee (IRB/IEC) is designed to approve, monitor, and review research involving humans with the aim to protect the rights and welfare of the subjects. An IRB performs critical oversight functions for research conducted on human subjects that are scientific, ethical, and regulatory.
