Hundreds of Northwestern students thank donors during annual Thank-a-Thon

Northwestern Foundation Release

In September, 257 Northwestern Oklahoma State University students called and wrote hundreds of donors to thank them for their gifts to the university.

Members of various campus groups and athletic teams took the opportunity to participate in the fourth annual Thank-a-Thon. While numerous volunteered ahead of time, many students participated as walk-ins.

Susan Holliday, Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association Relationship Manager, said, “In the four years of hosting the Thank-a-Thon, we had the highest student turnout this year. Students who hadn’t RSVP’d walked in and asked to volunteer. That’s amazing!”

The goal for the students was to contact 1,276 donors, but by the end of the week 1,560 contacts were made through a combination of phone calls, phone messages and hand-written letters. Several donors took the opportunity to meet the students and joined them for the evening activities.

“Once again we brought our donors and students together at the Thank-a-Thon, which is always a wonderful thing,” Holliday said. “Students have the opportunity to meet the people who establish the scholarships they receive. It helps them realize that someone has made a sacrifice for them. It also reinforces to our donors that our students are grateful and deserving.”
