January 30, 2012 -- Oklahoma students who will be in the 9th or 10th grades in the fall of 2012 are encouraged to apply by April 13 for a new science academy that will take place this summer at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. Up to 30 students will be selected to attend “Exploring the Benefits of Human-Animal Interaction” June 10-16 on the Alva campus for free thanks to a two-year grant recently approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Regents.

Jason Hillman, director of student life and counseling at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, has been selected to present at the Oklahoma Counseling Association Mid-Winter Conference on March 4-5 in Norman.

Psychology Club members at Northwestern Oklahoma State University recently conducted a successful three hour mental health seminar in the Student Center Ranger Room titled “Human Connections: Animal-Assisted Therapy & Drumming Therapy.”

Any Northwestern Oklahoma State University student, employee or any area community members who are interested in counseling and mental health should consider attending “Human Connections: Animal-Assisted Therapy & Drumming Therapy,” a seminar put on by the Northwestern Psychology Club. The seminar will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon, in the Student Center Ranger Room.
