Students and employees at Northwestern Oklahoma State University are making final plans for homecoming contests and decorations.
The homecoming committee encourages clubs, organizations and offices to enter the spirit sheet sign and/or window/door contests being conducted in conjunction with homecoming.
Entries in all contests must reflect the theme of “Ranger Heroes: Legends of Northwestern.” They will be judged on adherence to the homecoming theme, originality and quality of workmanship.
Entries in the spirit sheet contest must be delivered to the Student Affairs Office, FA126, no later than noon, Friday, Oct. 24. Entries are required to be on a twin sheet (66” x 96”), clearly show the name of the organization and feature this year’s theme, “Ranger Heroes: Legends of Northwestern.”
The sheets will be displayed throughout the Student Center during the week leading up to homecoming on Saturday, Nov.1, then taken to Ranger Field for the football game that afternoon.
Prizes are $25 for first place and $15 for second place. Groups can be reimbursed for up to $25 for materials with receipts.
The door/window/office contest is divided into two categories: one for decorations on the actual face of a door or window and one for windows with a display area behind the glass or for an actual office display.
Entries must be registered with Daresa Poe in the Information Technology Office, SH208 or 327-8601 on the Alva campus or with Lori Coonrod, coordinator of student services at the Enid campus, or Dr. Deena Fisher, dean of Northwestern-Woodward, by Friday, Oct. 24. Coonrod is located in room 102 and can be reached at 213-3147, and Fisher can be reached at 256-0049. Decorations must be in place by 8 a.m., Monday, Oct. 27.
The winning entries on the Alva campus will receive a free pizza from Chartwells, and the winning entries on the Enid and Woodward campuses will receive a free pizza from a local restaurant.
Clubs and organizations also may have fundraising booths on Alva’s downtown square the morning of the homecoming on Sat., Nov. 1. There is no charge for reserving a space, but booths do need to be registered with Poe by 5 p.m. on Oct. 24.
Entry forms and information about all homecoming activities can be found by going to Northwestern’s home page at www.nwosu.edu and clicking on the homecoming button.
