Homecoming float entry deadline Sept. 13

Float entry deadline for the Northwestern/Alva Homecoming 2010, “Reconnect: From Yearbook to Facebook,” has been set for Monday, Sept. 13. Entries must be turned into the Office of Student Services on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building by 5 p.m.

Float prizes will be $200 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place. This is a significant increase from two years ago when prizes were established for $25, $15 and $10 for first, second and third places.

To associate with the theme, entrants in the float contest are asked to design their floats around a particular era of Northwestern history, such as the decade of the1960s. Dress, music and photos from the era could be used as part of the float design.

In addition, each float in all categories will be considered for the President’s Award ($100 and engraved plaque) for the best overall float, and the Alumni Association Award ($75) for an exceptional display of Ranger spirit.

Campus and non-profit organizations may qualify for up to $200 in reimbursement. These groups must provide receipts verifying expenses.
Participants are encouraged to visit www.nwosu.edu/homecoming to receive specific information for reimbursements and rules and guidelines for float building.

Office hours for the Office of Student Services are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

All applications should include a sketch or design, including details for approval. There also is a $15 deposit for groups using the Armory for float building.
