Northwestern Fine Arts Department to present annual Holiday Concert

Christmastime is nearing and the Department of Fine Arts at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will present its annual Holiday Concert on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m., in Herod Hall Auditorium.

The program will present works for the holiday season. Featured music for the community’s enjoyment includes the Ukranian Bell Carol, Beautiful Savior, Do You Hear What I Hear, and Robert Russell Bennett’s famous holiday medley The Many Moods of Christmas.

The public is invited to attend this beloved free annual event.

The Northwestern Jazz Band will be under the direction of Max Ridgway. Ridgway is an adjunct instructor of music and currently is serving as interim director of the Northwestern Jazz Band.

Robert Anderson will conduct the Northwestern Symphonic Band. Anderson is the director of bands at Enid High School. He also currently is serving as interim director of the Ranger Band and Symphonic Band.

The Northwestern Symphonic Band will be co-conducted by Erin Place and Mike Conner. Place is director of bands at Waynoka High School and currently serves as adjunct instructor of music and co-interim conductor of the Northwestern Concert Band.

Conner is director of bands at Alva High School and serving with Place as co-interim conductor of the Northwestern Concert Band.

The Northwestern Concert Choir will be conducted by Dr. Stephen Kingsbury, chair of the Department of Fine Arts, director of choral and vocal studies and associate professor of music. Joining the University Chorale will be Dr. Ling-Yu Kan, associate professor of piano.

Following the holiday concert, Northwestern will have its annual tree lighting ceremony on the front lawn of Northwestern-Alva.
