“Ranger Heroes: Legends of Northwestern” has been selected as the theme of Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s 2008 homecoming celebration Oct. 31- Nov. 1.
The theme was devised by members of the Northwestern/Alva Homecoming Association and must be used by any club or organization entering the float, spirit sheet sign and dorm decoration contests.
Donald Coppock, a 1941 graduate, has been selected as parade marshal for the homecoming parade.
This year the Committee received funding from the Alva Tourism Committee to increase float prize money. Prizes for first, second and third will be increased to $200, $150 and $100, respectively. Campus organizations, as well as off-campus, non-profit organizations can receive up to $500 in reimbursements toward the cost of float building.
During Homecoming Week, there will be a variety of events planned for students.
The Miss Cinderella Talent Show is planned for Thursday, Oct. 30, with the Miss Cinderella Pageant on Friday, Oct. 31.
Events on Saturday, Nov. 1, will begin at 8 a.m., on Alva’s downtown square. A variety of activities will continue throughout the day, and the Ranger football team will play Southwestern (Kan.) College at 7 p.m. at Ranger Field.
Buttons for homecoming will go on sale in October. These sales are the primary sources of income for the Northwestern/Alva Homecoming Association and are greatly appreciated.
