Dr. William "David" Hawkins - Assistant Professor of Business and Chair of Division of Business
Dr. William "David" Hawkins is an Assistant Professor of Business in NWOSU's Division of Business. Dr. Hawkins earned his PhD in Business Administration with a dual concentration in Management and Marketing from Northcentral University (2013). He earned his MBA from Dallas Baptist University (1997) with a concentration in Marketing. Dr. Hawkins also has a MA (1986) and a BA (1982) in Theology from Abilene Christian University.
Courses that Dr. Hawkins teaches at NWOSU are: Small Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Consumer Behavior, Human Resource Management, Green Marketing, Business Startup, Principles of Marketing, and Personal Finance. Other university undergraduate and graduate courses taught by Dr. Hawkins include: Business Communication, Public Relations, Organizational Behavior and Ethical Management, Management Theory and Practice, Marketing Management, Sustainable Customer Relationships, and Strategic Marketing. Dr. Hawkins has also taught History of Eastern Religions and History of Western Religions.
Research & Presentations:
Two specific areas Dr. Hawkins has researched are early childhood education businesses and female entrepreneurs. Dr. Hawkins was the lead speaker at an Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce symposium (2011) on Marketing and Certifications for Female and MWBE Businesses. He has conducted training seminars for owner-operators of child care centers for crisis management and management strategies for child care centers. Dr. Hawkins authored articles for university newsletters covering techniques to improve student participation in the classroom and methods to incorporate electronic library resources into classroom discussions.
Dr. Hawkins has been an entrepreneur and small business owner for over 20 years. He and with his wife were owner-operators of an early childhood education & daycare center. He remains a consultant for family owned daycare centers and an expert on the laws and regulations pertaining to the child care industry. Dr. Hawkins is an investor in redeveloping residential properties in neighborhoods undergoing economic revitalization. As the Marketing Chair for his previous employer, Dr. Hawkins screened, interviewed, hired, and evaluated faculty applicants.
Membership & Activities:
As a member of the DOB's Assessment Committee, Dr. Hawkins reviews course objectives and content to meet guidelines to fulfill NWOSU objectives. He is a member on the NWOSU External Vendor review committee. In 2013, Dr. Hawkins became a member of the The Oklahoma Academy, a statewide organization dedicated to informing citizens and policymakers about key issues affecting Oklahomans. Dr. Hawkins is currently the President of the Las Colinas Symphony in Irving, TX. He is a member of Delta Mu Delta (ΔΜΔ), Alpha Mu Alpha (ΑΜΑ), Golden Key International Honor Society, and Mu Kappa Tau (ΜΚΤ).
