DEGREE PROGRAMS

Students who are interested in a major in the field of Health and Sports Science Education have two degree programs from which to choose:

I.  Bachelor of Science in Education

II. Bachelor of Science

Option I: Choosing a minor of a minimum of 20 hours
Option II: Completing a major/minor in “Health and Fitness Management”
COURSES REQUIRED OF STUDENTS DESIRING TO OBTAIN COACHING AND/OR TEACHING CREDENTIALS ARE SHOWN IN THE CHART BELOW:
Parentheses around a number means that the course would also count for general education credit, as well as for the major.  The courses that are required on this degree would also be the ones that are required for standard certification in Health and Physical Education.

Students who choose the education route must also meet all of the requirements of the Education Department including admission to Teacher Education, passing all required examinations and meeting minimum grade point averages.  In addition, twenty-four hours of course work must be completed before enrolling in the ten hours of student teaching required in their last semester before graduation.  Students should also look at the Assessment Information for Teacher Education Portfolios.
