Jordan Gaskill of Waynoka was crowned Saturday night as the 2009 Miss Northwestern Oklahoma State University. A junior majoring in biology, she will represent the university at the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant June 1-6 in Tulsa.
Gaskill chose “Promoting Service Learning through Education” as her platform, and for the talent presentation she performed a vocal solo, “I Who Have Nothing.”
Paige Fischer, a freshman from Jet, was first runner-up, and Eileen Hess, a junior from Enid, was second runner-up. Ashley Schmitz, a Laverne freshman, was voted by audience members as the “Crowd Pleaser.”
Sagelyn Budy, 2009 Miss Northwestern Star, will accompany Gaskill to the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant.
Contestants in the pageant were judged in talent, interview, fitness in a swimsuit and onstage question categories.
In addition to gifts from various local businesses, Miss Northwestern will receive a $1,500 tuition scholarship and a $500 cash scholarship. The first runner-up receives a $1,000 tuition scholarship and $200 cash, and the second runner-up receives $500 and $100, respectively. Each contestant will receive a $200 cash participation scholarship award.
Other contestants included Audra Halliburton, Laverne freshman, and Brandi Parker, Fort Supply senior.
