Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, welcoming new students to the Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus in Alva. Those selected for the President’s Leadership Class will have the opportunity to learn from Cunningham and develop their leadership skills during their freshman year.

High school seniors who plan to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University in the fall and become leaders at the university and in life should apply to the President’s Leadership Class (PLC) and earn up to $2,750 in scholarship funds. Students must meet specific requirements in order to apply.

PLC is comprised of the most accomplished, promising and motivated incoming freshmen to Northwestern and is designed to enhance the participant’s ability to effectively lead and foster a greater awareness of leadership roles in today’s society.

Applications may be found online at www.nwosu.edu/presidents-leadership-class. The application deadline is Monday, March 7. Hand-delivered applications must be turned in at the Office of Recruitment by 5 p.m. on March 7. If mailed, the application must be postmarked no later than March 7.

Students should send a seven-semester transcript and ACT scores with the application, and must meet all standard admission requirements to Northwestern.

Applications must be accompanied by two letters of recommendation and a scholarship application form, obtainable from Northwestern’s Office of Financial Aid or by visiting www.nwosu.edu/scholarships.

One letter of recommendation must be from a high school teacher, high school principal, high school counselor or other faculty member or member of administration. The second letter should be from another person such as a minister, family friend or employer. Letters of recommendation should include the name, position and relationship to the applicant of the person writing the recommendations.

Selected finalists will be interviewed in late March/early April and notified by phone and/or mail about the interview.
Recipients of the PLC Scholarship will be notified in mid-April. The scholarship will cover the freshman year only at Northwestern-Alva.

Each year, the PLC class takes a trip to a major U.S. city with Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president. The group visits museums and other fun sites.

All application materials should be mailed to Paige Fischer, Director of Recruitment, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Office of Recruitment, 709 Oklahoma Blvd., Alva, OK 73717. Contact Fischer with questions at plfischer@nwosu.edu or (580) 327-8545.
