Northwestern alumnus and professional rodeo cowboy Shannon Frascht has been named as the rodeo coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Frascht, a 1990 graduate of Northwestern, was selected from a pool of 26 applicants and will take over the reins of the men’s and women’s rodeo programs immediately.

“We are fortunate to get a coach and person of Shannon’s caliber to lead our rodeo team,” stated athletic director Bob Battisti. “Shannon will be a great ambassador for Northwestern and our athletic department.”

Frascht, who attended Northwestern from 1985-89, was a member of the Ranger rodeo team. Since, he has been decorated in professional rodeo as a team roper and in other endeavors.

A member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association since 1990, Frascht has numerous accomplishments on the national, regional and state levels. He has appeared as a qualifier in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and in the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Show. Frascht has also been a PRCA Prairie Circuit Rodeo Finalist, Prairie Circuit Team Roping Year-End Champion, Texas Cowboys Rodeo Association Finals Qualifier and Year-end Champion and a Central Plains Rodeo Association Finals Qualifier and Year-end Champion. 

In addition to professional rodeo, Frascht has been a roping instructor, horse trainer and breeder. He has also been a sales representative for Hot Heels, Inc. and an endorsee for Classic Equine.

“I am excited about the challenge ahead,” remarked Frascht. “Tim Kolb left us with a good bunch of kids. We hope to build on that and take the rodeo program to another level.”
