Degree Offerings in Fine Arts

Northwestern offers two degrees for students seeking careers in music.  The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) degree prepares students to be performers, studio teachers, church musicians, and for music-related industry or graduate school.  However, this degree does not lead to public school teaching certification.  Students seeking careers as music educators should pursue the Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.) degree.   This degree plan prepares students to be professional educators in the public schools.  Although a music education major may select either a vocal or an instrumental option, the music faculty encourages all students to have experience in both vocal and instrumental music, and strongly suggests achieving state certification in both areas to increase marketability after graduation.

The University offers two degrees in speech and theatre.
The Bachelor of Arts degree in speech and theatre prepares students to pursue careers in judicial law, human resources, public relations, business, the media, the entertainment industry, professional theatre, community theatre, religious theatre and/or for graduate school.  The Bachelor of Arts in Education in speech and theatre degree prepares students for careers as educators in public schools.
