Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the Libraries' Online Catalog?

Follow the link to the catalog from the NWOSU Libraries' homepage

Enter a keyword or phrase in the search box and use the drop-down menu on the right to indicate the kind of search you would like to perform.  A list of titles will appear that are relevant in some way to your search.

You can click on the title link of any record to get more detailed information on the status and location of the item.  Make sure to note the location (Alva or Enid campus) and the status (on the shelf, lost, or checked out) of the item.

How do I find magazine, journal, and newspaper articles?

The fastest and most thorough way to look for magazine, journal, and newspaper articles is to use the Northwestern Libraries' online databases via EBSCO (accessible from the EBSCO link on the homepage).

To learn more about how to use the databases, take the EBSCO Tutorial or come to either campus library for personal help.

How do I access the libraries' electronic resources

from off campus?

Most library electronic resources are limited to current NWOSU faculty, staff and students.

If you are on campus, you may access electronic resources from any computer which is linked to the campus network (even in the dorms). If you are not on campus, you will be asked to log in using the passwords provided by the Northwestern Libraries.  Information concerning passwords can be obtained at any of the campus libraries when your show your student ID.

How do I request an item that is housed at another

NWOSU Library?

If the information in the online catalog states the item you are looking for is housed at another NWOSU campus library, you will need to request a library-to-library loan.

To request a library-to-library loan, contact the library staff or the campus secretary at the campus nearest to you. Please provide as much information about the item as you can.  Additionally, you should provide your name and where you can be reached. When the library item arrives, you will receive an e-mail message and then you can pick up the item from the library staff or the campus secretary who helped you with the request.

How do I request an Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

First, check the NWOSU Libraries' online catalog to make sure the book is not available at either campus library.  If you are requesting an article, make sure to check the shelves as well as the catalog because journal holdings are still being updated.  If you are unable to come to either library, please feel free to call for assistance.

To request an ILL, fill out a request form at either campus library or use the online form here. We need to know the complete title, author, and publication information of the book or article to do a thorough search. If you have any questions, please contact the libraries via phone or e-mail - nwlibraries@nwosu.edu.

Can I connect to wireless internet at the library with my own laptop?

You can do this only if your laptop is set-up to recognize a wireless signal.  Your laptop should locate the wireless network available in the library when you bring it in.  The network connection password is Rangers.
