Approximately 330 students and family members enjoyed the festivities of Family Day at Northwestern Oklahoma State University this fall.
The rain stopped Saturday afternoon right before the halftime presentation of Northwestern’s Family Day winners. Traveling the furthest to attend the event were Sandy Cooper (far left) of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Amy Gascon (center) of Riverview, Fla., for their children Gerald Footman and Ryan Gascon, respectively. They won shirts from the NWOSU Bookstore. “Shopping for Tuition” winners were presented with prizes by Northwestern Foundation CEO Skeeter Bird (far right). The winners were Cindy Eckholm (second from left) of Enid, $200 tuition winner for student Cally Winburn; Janie Gould of Alva, $300 tuition winner for student Jacob Gould; and Kelli Krows and her dad Rick Krows of Seiling, $500 tuition winners.
“We were very pleased with the attendance at Family Day this year,” said Brad Franz, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
Northwestern students and their families were encouraged to register for prizes as they arrived in the NWOSU Bookstore. There were 144 families who registered at Family Day this year.
During the presidential pre-game program, Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, welcomed all the families, and refreshments were served.
Due to unfavorable weather conditions after the reception, families were encouraged to enjoy lunch catered by Chartwell’s in the newly renovated Coronado Hall cafeteria.
The weather finally cooperated, and it stopped prior to the halftime presentation of Family Day winners. Traveling the furthest to attend the event were Sandy Cooper of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Amy Gascon of Riverview, Fla., for their children, who are freshmen at Northwestern, Gerald Footman and Ryan Gascon, respectively. They won shirts from the NWOSU Bookstore.

“This event wouldn’t have been possible without all the help from administration, faculty, staff and the students who brought their families to campus,” Franz said. “We also appreciate Chartwell’s and those who helped serve for all their hard work.”
Family Day is an annual event where Northwestern students have the opportunity to show their families around campus.
