Entry registration for Art Society art show open through April 6

April 3, 2012

Free entry registration for the ninth annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society Art Show is now being accepted through Friday, April 6. An online registration form is available at www.nwosu.edu/art-show-form,  as well as a list for all categories and their descriptions.

For those who prefer to have a printed version of the entry form, a link to a Word file of the entry form also is available. The Word form can be filled out and emailed to Angelia Case, NAS sponsor, at arcase@nwosu.edu.  It also may be printed out and mailed to Case or taken to her office in the Media Center, second floor of the J.W. Martin Library.

All art pieces must be delivered to the Media Center no later than April 11, by 5 p.m. Only those with permission will be allowed to bring artwork no later than noon on April 13. No more than two items per category may be entered.

All Northwestern students, alumni, current and retired employees are encouraged to enter this year’s show, which runs April 14-28 in the J.W. Martin Library in Alva.

Students have the opportunity to win first through third place ribbons and more than $700 in prize money. Students will compete head-to-head for prize money in 18 categories and will be up against everyone in the show’s two special categories of “Reuse, Recycle, ReArt” and Cell Phone Photography. Each student division winner also will receive a ribbon and a cash prize. A Best of Show also will be selected, earning a ribbon and cash prize.

All current and retired employees and alumni will compete against each other and will receive ribbons as category, division and Best of Show prizes.

Everyone entered in the art show will be eligible for the People’s Choice ribbon and $50 cash prize.

Those entering the CORE-sponsored “Reuse, Recycle, ReArt” category will be competing against everyone as well. In this category, the majority of the art piece must be created from objects that might otherwise go in the trash. It can be anything creative – sculptural, flat, etc. Judging will be based on the piece’s environmental statement with important consideration of originality, presentation and quality of work.

Everyone also is eligible to enter the Cell Phone Photography category to compete for the top prizes. This special category will adhere to all requirements listed in the Photography Division. Please refer to the detailed list of show specifications and category descriptions available at www.nwosu.edu/nas-art-show for exact instructions on this category, as well as all others.

There will be opportunities for Studio Art categories such as drawings, mixed media, paintings and cartoons/comics, as well as Artisan Crafts in both functional and non-functional art and textiles/quilts/needlework. Jewelry is now included in the functional art category.

One new category in the Studio Art Division is Print Design, which is described as being a Poster, Postcard, Packaging, Logo, Flyer, and Book or Journal cover design. The artwork may be computer-aided or hand-drawn. All concepts and work must be the artist's own.

The Photography division includes several opportunities including the three new areas of Landscapes, Plant Life and Animals. Other photography options include Black and White, Conceptual, Elements of Design, People, Ranger Surprise, Photomanipulation and Photojournalism.

All photos (including Cell Phone Photos) submitted must be at least 5x7 in size, mounted or matted, no frames. All other work needs to be matted and/or framed, if framing is possible. Only three-dimensional work is exempt, and it must be labeled.

All artwork submitted to the show must be made by the individual entering the piece. No kits are allowed. If artwork has been shown in an NAS art show before, it may not be submitted again. Artwork must be appropriate according to university standards.

Winning art entries are eligible to be on display at a community art show to take place in downtown Alva at the Runnymede Hotel April 30 – May 1.
