Entry deadline March 1 for NWOSU Art Society Art Show

Free entry registration for the 10th annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society (NAS) Art Show ends March 1. An online form is available at www.nwosu.edu/art-show-form, as well as a list for all 23 categories and their descriptions.

For those who prefer to have a printed version of the entry form, a link to a Word file of the entry form also is available at the above link. The Word form can be filled out and emailed to Angelia Case, NAS sponsor, at arcase@nwosu.edu. It also may be printed out and mailed to Case or taken to her office in the Media Center, second floor of the J.W. Martin Library.

All art pieces must be delivered to the Media Center no later than Wednesday, March 6, by 5 p.m. Only those with permission will be allowed to bring artwork no later than noon on Friday, March 8. No more than two items per category may be entered.

All Northwestern students, alumni, current and retired employees are encouraged to enter this year’s show, which has the theme, “Creativity Takes Courage – Celebrating the Arts: Honoring a Decade of NWOSU Art Society.” The show will run March 9-30 in the J.W. Martin Library in Alva. The public is welcome to view the show during the library’s normal hours of operation.

Students have the opportunity to win first through third place ribbons and more than $700 in prize money. Students will compete head-to-head for prize money in 23 categories and will be up against everyone in the show’s special category of “Celebrating the Arts.” Each student division winner also will receive a ribbon and a cash prize. A student Best of Show also will be selected, earning a ribbon and cash prize.

All current and retired employees and alumni will compete against each other and will receive ribbons as category, division and Best of Show prizes.

Everyone entered in the art show will be eligible for the People’s Choice ribbon and $50 cash prize.

All artwork submitted to the show must be made by the individual entering the piece. No kits are allowed. If artwork has been shown in an NAS art show before, it may not be submitted again. Artwork must be appropriate according to university standards.

Winning art entries are eligible to be on display at a community art show to take place in downtown Alva at the Runnymede Hotel Friday, April 5, during the First Friday Art Walk activities, 6 to 8 p.m.

During the show on campus, curating staff from Graceful Arts Gallery in downtown Alva will be visiting the show and may select artwork to be included in their Gallery Exhibit and Sale April 9-28. Members of that staff may then contact each artist about including their art and work with them to get it ready for exhibit in their gallery along with artwork produced by students in Northwestern’s Studio Art program. The Gallery will be open on Saturday, April 27, the day of Northwestern’s annual Alumni Spring Reunion.

Categories and descriptions in the divisions of Studio Art, Artisan Crafts and Photography can be found at www.nwosu.edu/art-show-specs-descriptions.

“As always, we appreciate the Student Government Association for serving as co-sponsor of this art show each year and providing $250 to be used for student prize money,” Case said. “Members of the Art Society also have been participating in several fundraisers to provide the more than $1,000 in funds necessary to make this show a reality each year. We thank those of you who have supported us this year.

“We have a small group, and they work so hard throughout the year to make this show happen so we can showcase the talents and creativity of our campus communities,” Case added. “Our club is here to provide a creative outlet to anyone in our campus communities who wishes to attend our meetings and be a part of the group, whether they’re fine artists, doodlers, photographers, crafters or those who just appreciate the arts and being creative. We’re always looking to add to our membership.”
