Members of the English Department at Northwestern Oklahoma State University are planning their first English Department alumni reunion. Two events for alumni and friends have been planned during Northwestern’s homecoming Oct. 24.
There will be a meet and greet at the Alumni Association tent on the north side of Alva’s downtown square from 9-10 a.m. Patrons can sign in, enjoy refreshments and visit with Sheldon Russell, celebrated author and class of 1968.
Russell will be autographing copies of his latest novel, “The Yard Dog,” which will be available for purchase at the Alumni Association tent. The novel is set in Woods County during the time of the WWII German POW camp in Alva. Russell is a Professor Emeritus from the University of Louisville and the University of Central Oklahoma. His book “Dreams to Dust” won the 2007 Oklahoma Book Award for Fiction and was selected as the Official Oklahoma Centennial Project.
That afternoon, Russell will be reading an excerpt from “The Yard Dog” in Vinson Hall 200 from 1:30-2 p.m.
