Dawn Allen, M.F.A.
Instructor of English
Dawn Allen received her undergraduate degree in English Education from Pittsburg State University in 1980. She taught in the Olathe School District for 18 years before earning her MFA from the University of Nebraska in 2009. In 2009 she joined the English Department at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Ks. Since coming to Northwestern in 2012, she has taught Writing and Literacy and Composition I and II.
Dawn Allen is a workshop presenter, the founding member of critique group, Novel Clique, and an active member of Midwest Pen and Ink. She served as conference chair for OWFI from 2013-2014 and as president from 2014-2015 and is currently serving on the executive board of this nonprofit. Her stories have appeared in Soft Whispers; A Fly in Amber; and articles with First Opinions, Second Reactions. Her short story, Taking Out the Trash, is in an anthology of revenge stories, Don’t Tread on Me. She holds an MFA in Writing from the University of Nebraska.
