College life at Northwestern is a mix of small-town friendliness and big-city student activities, but to get the full experience of college, you have to get out there and enjoy what the university and community provides for you.

Northwestern is the cultural center of the region with on-campus events such as plays, concerts and lectures. Nearly every academic department has a student organization that you should check out. Membership in other professional, religious, political, academic and social clubs or organizations is available.

You also can become a member of the Student Government Association, university music and theatre groups, and campus media. Northwestern women can enter the Miss Northwestern Pageant, which provides scholarship incentives to the title holder.  The center of activity on campus is the Student Center, which features a food court, game room, cyber cafe and large bookstore.

Intramural athletics will allow you to continue participating in team sports such as football, volleyball, basketball and softball. Varsity athletics plays an important role at Northwestern, too, whether you're playing or watching as a fan. As a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the university sponsors athletic competition for men and women in many sports. And, if you're just needing to get in some exercise and the weather isn't cooperating outside, check out the J.R. Holder Wellness Center where you can run, walk, lift weights, swim or join an aerobics class, among other things.

The university also offers special student services through a Counseling Center, Academic Success Center, Student Health Center, and Career Services.
