Conserving our Ranger Environment (CORE) at Northwestern Oklahoma State University was recognized and awarded the Environmental Excellence Award for Colleges/Universities with a student population of less than 15,000 for its efforts with “The Big Event.”

CORE plays host to “The Big Event” each year – an event where Northwestern students and employees say “thanks” to Northwestern communities in Alva, Enid and Woodward for their support. Volunteers help with various community beautification projects such as litter and debris removal, flower and tree plantings and painting.

Sponsors Janet Valencia and Dr. Steven Mackie took Becky Burke, Oilton junior; and Lauren Young, Norman sophomore, to Oklahoma City for the awards ceremony last week.

The annual “Big Event” is planned for March 26, 2011.
