Excessive rain and cloudy weather has created soggy conditions at Ranger Field and has forced officials at Northwestern Oklahoma State University to move Saturday’s spring commencement ceremony indoors.
Commencement will now be conducted inside Percefull Fieldhouse at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 9.
“The field conditions at Ranger Field are not good and likely will not improve significantly before Saturday,” said Brad Franz, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management, and chair of the University’s commencement committee. “The conditions pose a safety risk for the participants and we would hate to see an accident or injury on this special day.
“We understand moving the commencement ceremony creates limitations on the number of people who can witness the event in person, but we will work to accommodate as many guests as possible.”
Admission to Percefull Fieldhouse will be by ticket only. Six tickets have been provided to graduates who plan to participate in the ceremony and they are responsible for distribution. Each person who occupies a seat, including infants and children, will be required to present a ticket.
Beginning at 10:15 a.m., remaining seating will be made available to non-ticket guests although ticket holders will continue to receive priority.
Northwestern will make the ceremony available to guests through closed-circuit television in Herod Hall Auditorium. NWTV, cable channel 7, also will provide television coverage of the event to cable subscribers in Alva.
