Cody Hooper begins his ninth season as the head coach of the Ranger softball program and has been the only coach since the program’s inception. Hooper holds a 233-188 (.553) overall record in eight seasons since the program started at Northwestern in 2001.
During last season, Hooper added another thirty or more win season, as his Ranger’s were 31-19 on the season. In six of his eight seasons, he has won thirty or more games.
In 2007, Hooper turned in a 24-29 record and recorded his 200th win on May 4, 2007, in a 4-2 win over Oklahoma Baptist in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. The 2007 squad went on to play for the conference championship, falling to St. Gregory’s in the finals.
Hooper also guided the 2007 Lady Rangers to their second Region VI Tournament appearance.
During the 2006 season, Hooper recorded his third consecutive and fifth overall season with 30 or more wins.
He posted back-to-back 30-win seasons during the first two seasons (2001 and 2002) of his Northwestern tenure.
In seven seasons, Hooper has coached 20 Sooner Athletic Conference all-conference selections, including 13 first-team members and 11 second team selections. In addition, he has produced four Region VI selections and four NAIA Academic All-Americans.
A native of Farmington, N.M., Hooper double-majored at Northwestern, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 1985 and with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1990. In May of 2002, Hooper earned a master’s degree in secondary education.
Hooper was a strong pitcher for the Rangers during his four-year stint (1982-85) and was selected as an Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference first-team pitcher in 1985.
He is married to Machelle, an Alva High School graduate, and has two sons: Taylor, 19, a current Ranger football player; and Ty, 13.
Erin Davis
Student Assistant Softball Coach
After playing for the Ranger softball team as utility player, Erin Davis will begin her first season on the coaching staff.
Davis, from Lakenheath, England, played in more than 80 games for the Rangers from 2004-07
Davis graduated with a bachelor’s degree in health and sports science and is working towards her master’s degree at Northwestern.
Lisa Woods
Student Assistant Softball Coach
Lisa Woods also joins the coaching staff for her first season after four years on the diamond for the Ranger softball team.
The Farmington, N.M. native, was a second-team all-conference performer during her junior season. Woods, a secondbaseman, was a .298 career hitter with 28 stolen bases. She played in 182 games and scored 79 runs and drove in 25 runs.
Woods graduated with a bachelor’s degree in health and sports science with a minor in psychology and is working on her second bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
