Shane Hansen begins his third year as Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s head cross country coach.
In his three years at the helm, he has improved his team from 8 members to 19 members. The women’s team has finished seventh his first two years in the Sooner Athletic Conference, and the men’s team finished sixth last season.
Hansen takes great pride in his student-athlete’s academic prowess. He monitors a mandatory team study hall as well as keeping close contact with each team member’s instructors. His efforts have been rewarded as the women’s team was named an NAIA Scholar Team in 2008 and 2009. The men’s team was recognized as a NAIA Scholar Team in 2009. He has also coached one Academic All-American as well as one Academic All-Conference performer.
Hansen is currently an adjunct instructor in the Health and Sports Science Education department. He graduated in May of 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Health and Sports Science Education from Northwestern. Hansen completed a master’s degree in Adult Education Management and Administration in May of 2010, also from Northwestern.
During his senior season as a member of the basketball team, Hansen was awarded the Sooner Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Award. He was twice selected to the Honorable Mention All-Conference squad and was an Academic All-American during both his junior and senior seasons.
Hansen currently resides in Alva with his wife Kaylyn.
