Claflin honored on Foundation billboard

July 8, 2008

The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation has changed the billboard to feature another outstanding alum, Dr. Jim Claflin. The billboard is on the west side of Interstate-35 about two miles south of the Kansas-Oklahoma border and can be read traveling southbound. Janet Valencia, Northwestern printing services coordinator, designed the billboard.

Dr. Jim Claflin (left) and Skeeter Bird, Foundation executive director, hold the billboard design that can be seen driving southbound on I-35 just a couple miles south of the Oklahoma-Kansas border.

For the first six months the billboard was standing, it featured 2004 graduate Patrick Crayton. The current billboard will feature Dr. Jim Claflin, a 1967 graduate and a 1997 Outstanding Graduate, he currently works at the Oklahoma Allergy and Asthma Clinic in Oklahoma City. Claflin is pictured in his lab coat with a tray of medicine with a quote that reads, “Northwestern, home away from home WITH an excellent education.”

Dr. Jim Claflin and his wife Marcee have generously donated the funds necessary to keep this billboard up and going. In August, the billboard will have been up for one year and recently the Claflin’s decided to keep funding the billboard project for another year.

“We have so many alums that are doing incredible things and we felt this was a great way to not only promote the university but also acknowledge the accomplishments of our past, present and future Rangers,” said Skeeter Bird, Foundation executive director.
