Dr. Cheryl Evans, became the Dean of the Northwestern-Enid campus in July 2004. She also is an Assistant Professor in Mass Communications and is the former chair of the Communication Department. She completed a research project titled Broadcasters Streaming into the Future: A Delphi Study on the Future of Radio on the World Wide Web while completing her doctoral degree at Oklahoma State University. Evans earned her B. A. in mass communications from Northwestern and her M. A. in communications from the Elliott School of Communications at Wichita State University.

Evans served as chair of the steering committee that guided Northwestern through the Spring 2004 process that resulted in the university being reaccredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association for the maximum 10 years. She also was coordinator of the self-study that evaluated how well Northwestern is meeting the needs of those it serves and demonstrated to the HLC that the school also meets the criteria for continued accreditation. In the Fall 2004, she was selected to serve as a peer reviewer for the Program to Evaluate and Advance Quality of the HLC/NCA.

Evans is the past-president of the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA) and a Broadcast Education Association member. She is a past recipient of the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters (OAB) award, and the Lisa John Faculty Fellowship, which is presented annually to only one broadcast faculty member statewide.

Evans received the John Sheffield Teacher of the Year Award from the Student Government Association in 2000. Evans also is the past manager of the student-operated campus radio station, and past faculty adviser for Northwestern's student chapters of the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA), SPJ (Society of Professional Journalists), and Cardinal Key Honor Society. She is a member of BEA (Broadcast Education Association) and is a Northwestern Foundation-Alumni Member.

Evans and her husband Tom have two daughters, Cara and Christa.
