Carrie Bowers, a sophomore from Cherokee, was named Miss Northwestern Oklahoma State University during the annual Miss Northwestern Pageant on Sunday. This year, the Miss Northwestern Outstanding Teen title was awarded to Kenzie Kraft of Burlington.

Bowers also received the Fitness Award. Steve Clausen of One Healthy Bod in Oklahoma City will provide nutrition and fitness counseling to her for winning this category. She sang “So Much Better,” and her platform is “Self-Confidence and Self-Worth in Young Women.”

To become a member of Northwestern’s Outstanding Teen pageant, participants must be at least 13 years of age and not older than 17 by the National Pageant in August. Contestants cannot turn 18 before July 31, 2012.

Kraft performed a lyrical ballet to “GIitter in the Air” and will work to promote her platform, “YOGOWYPI – You Only Get Out What You Put In.”

Bowers will receive a tuition scholarship and a cash scholarship as Miss Northwestern.

When Kraft attends college at Northwestern, she will receive a tuition scholarship. Carson Schanbacher, the 2012 Miss Northwestern Star of Cherokee, will accompany Bowers to the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant in Tulsa in June.

Madison Bird, a freshman from Alva, was named first runner-up, and Chelsay Adams, a freshman from Mooreland, was chosen as the second runner-up in the Miss portion of the pageant. Each runner-up winner will receive tuition and cash scholarships.

Contestants in the pageant were judged in talent, interview, fitness in a swimsuit and onstage questions categories. Each contestant in both the Miss and Teen categories will receive cash participation scholarship awards.

Rachel Ruble, Mooreland freshman, and Olivia Yandel, Kiowa (Kan.) freshman, also participated in the Miss Northwestern Pageant. Teen contestants also included Savanna Eshleman, Cherokee; Cheney Bird, Alva; Harlie Taylor, Woodward; and Carolyn Koepping, Enid.

Contestants for the Miss Northwestern star program included Izabella O’Bleness, Alva; Teagyn Baker, Fairview; Breya Beck, Waynoka; and Desa Gainer, Mooreland.
