2011 Miss Northwestern
2011 Miss Northwestern Outstanding Teen
Carmen Sander, a freshman from Seiling, was named Miss Northwestern Oklahoma State University during the annual Miss Northwestern Pageant on Sunday. New this year, the Miss Northwestern Outstanding Teen title was awarded to Ellen Halliburton of Slapout.
Sander sang “Orange Colored Sky” and her platform is “A Cyber-Safe Society.” Halliburton also sang for the talent portion of the pageant. She sang “Stupid Cupid,” and she will work to promote her platform, “Dangers of Cell Phone Use While Driving. Is it Worth the Risk?”
Sander received many donated prizes from community businesses, and also will receive a tuition scholarship and a cash scholarship as Miss Northwestern.
When Halliburton attends college at Northwestern, she will receive a tuition scholarship. She also received many gifts from local businesses for becoming Northwestern’s first Outstanding Teen.
Liberty Bird, the 2011 Miss Northwestern Star of Alva, will accompany Sander to the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant in Tulsa in June.
Alyssa Troy, a junior from Woodward, was named first runner-up and Audra Halliburton, a junior from Slapout, was chosen as the second runner-up in the Miss portion of the pageant. Each runner-up winner will receive tuition and cash scholarships.
By selling 26 tickets, Halliburton also won $100 in Alva Chamber Bucks for having the highest ticket sales.
Kenzie Kraft of Burlington was named the first runner-up in the Teen portion of the pageant, and Jaci Hodges of Woodward, was second runner-up. Each runner-up in the Teen category will receive a tuition scholarship if they choose Northwestern as their school of choice for college.
Hayley Luis, Newkirk sophomore, received the Fitness Award. Steve Clausen of One Healthy Bod in Oklahoma City will provide nutrition and fitness counseling to Luis for winning this category.
Contestants in the pageant were judged in talent, interview, fitness in a swimsuit and onstage questions categories. Each contestant in both the Miss and Teen categories will receive cash participation scholarship awards.
Shaelyn Brinson, Hennessey freshman, also participated in the Miss Northwestern Pageant. Teen contestants also included Hannah Jo Berg of Helena and Cheney Bird of Alva.
Contestants for the Miss Northwestern star program included, Kresta Badley, Abbigale Hall, Mackenzie Morris and Laney Stewart, all of Alva.
