Dr. Jim Breyley - Associate Professor of Management

Education:

James BreyleyDr. Jim Breyley, an Associate Professor of Business, holds the Bert Mackie Endowed Chair in Business for the NWOSU-Division of Business.  Dr. Breyley has a PhD in Business Administration in Management from Arizona State University with minors in Industrial Engineering and Business Education.  He earned his MS in Business Administration from Colorado State University and a BA in Economics from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.

Professional Experience:

As a former leader and developer of business programs at the university level, Dr. Jim Breyley's 34 years of continual experiences strengthen NWOSU Business program through course content enhancements in the classroom, interactions between NWOSU students and local business communities in the Entrepreneurial Internship, and counsel to other faculty members.  Dr. Breyley was instrument in the ACBSP accreditation for the University of New England (2008) and for Mississippi Valley State University (1998).  He has been the Director of Graduate Program in Business for Quincy University (93-96), University of Nebraska-Kearney (89-90) and Rockford College (87-88).  While teaching at the University of New England, he was the Chair of the Business Department (03-09), a position he also held at Louisiana State University at Alexandria (01-03), St. Augustine College (98-01), and at Mississippi Valley State University (96-98). 

Research Areas:

For over 28 years, Dr. Breyley has researched home ownership, legal liability of tobacco companies, and corporate social responsibility.  His research comparing approaches to homeownership in the U.S. and Canadian was published in the Proceedings of the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Business, Society & Government Consortium (2012).  Dr. Breyley co-authored a report entitled, "The Freddie Mac Consumer Credit Education Initiative: A Report on Minorities and Mattes of Home Financing" which was published in Journal of Communication and Minority Issues (2001).

An analysis of the legal implications of the merger between satellite television and satellite radio operations was presented at the Annual Conference of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business in 2008.  This report was later published in the National Proceedings (2008).  Another award winning research effort, "The Epic Tale of a Merger: An Analysis of the Sirius-XM Satellite Merger" was published in Business, Society, and Government Journal (2009).  In 2009, Dr. Breyley's work received the MBAA International McGraw-Hill Distinguished Paper Award.

Courses:

Dr. Jim Breyley teaches Survey of Accounting, Financial Accounting, Survey of Finance, Business Finance, Principles of Management, and Business, Society and Government.  He coordinates all student Internship programs for Accounting, Business, Management, Marketing, and Organizational Leadership. 

Membership & Activities:

Dr. Breyley serves on the Faculty Senate, Academic Affairs and the General Education committees for NWOSU.  He is Chair for the DOB Planning Committee.  As a member of the Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Breyley serves as a liaison between NWOSU and the Greater Enid business community.  He is a member of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business.  Dr. Breyley serves as the Secretary and Treasurer for the Business, Society & Government Consortium.
