Created in 2012 by Brandice Guerra, the "Two-Headed Hereford (Alva, Oklahoma)" is the current cover of the Art Focus Oklahoma magazine.
Brandice Guerra, MFA, created "The Neonate," which recently received honorable mention in the 55th Annual Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Art Center in Little Rock.
Besides teaching art at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Brandice Guerra, MFA, assistant professor of art, has created pieces that have been on display at the Arkansas Art Center in Little Rock and, more recently, graced the cover of Art Focus Oklahoma.
Guerra’s work, titled “The Neonate,” was selected as an honorable mention piece for the 55th Annual Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Art Center in Little Rock.
“The Neonate” is a small oil painting of a male and female bluebird standing guard over a tiny human infant.
This piece was chosen as honorable mention by juror Monica Bowman, owner of The Butcher's Daughter Gallery in Ferndale, Mich. Bowman selected the top works of art from 800 entries.
Guerra also created the "Two-Headed Hereford (Alva, Oklahoma)," which was chosen as the March/April 2013 cover of Art Focus Oklahoma. Inside the cover, Guerra talks about how this painting pays tribute to one of her most memorable experiences visiting the two-headed calf in the Northwestern Museum of Natural History.
The painting combines the two-headed Hereford standing in the typical red dirt of Oklahoma with a tornado in the background.
