Blackboard: What You Will Need


NWOSU assumes that online students will access Blackboard from an off-campus computer at their home, office, or other location.  Although computer labs are available on campus, many of them are frequently used for class purposes or for testing.  Please remember that students are allowed to use a university computer in one of the campus labs, but they cannot be guaranteed access to a lab at all times.

Computer Requirements:

PC

Pentium II or higher processor
64 MB RAM
233 MHz
2GB Hard Drive
15" monitor
56K modem
Windows 98 or higher
Sound capabilities (sound card and speakers)
Internet Service Provider (ISP)

Macintosh

Power PC processor or better
MacOS 9 or MacOS X
500 MB hard drive (if downloading files, 2 GB should be minimum)
64 MB of RAM
56K modem
Sound capability speakers

Software:

Microsoft Word
Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher (Blackboard operates better in IE than in Netscape)
Microsoft PowerPoint or PowerPoint Reader (free download)
Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download)
Anti-Virus Software like Norton's Anti-Virus

Some classes require additional software, so be sure to contact the professor.
