2005 Women's Soccer Coaches

 Head Coach Steve Barrows
Steve Barrows
Head Soccer Coach

In just four short years Steve Barrows has done what very few people can imagine. He has taken the Ranger soccer team from ground zero and has turned them into a national contender in the NAIA. Barrows has turned in a 47-30-3 overall record in his tenure at Northwestern.

Last season he led the Rangers to an impressive 16-3-2 record and were ranked as high as 15th in the nation while being the first Ranger athletic team to bring home a Sooner Athletic Conference championship. Northwestern appeared in their third Sooner Athletic Conference tournament and made their second showing in the Region VI tournament. The Rangers placed second in Region VI play while narrowly missing out on a chance to play in the NAIA National Tournament.

The inaugural season of 2001 did not turn out exactly as Barrows would have liked. Finishing 4-14 on the season, he knew there was room for improvement.

Barrows not only showed improvement in 2002, but he showed what kind of coach he is by turning in a season ending record of 13-7. The team finished third in the Sooner Athletic Conference and extended their season to the second round of playoffs where they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to Oklahoma Christian University.

In 2003, the Rangers finished with an impressive 14-6-1 record and making it all the way to the Region VI playoffs.

Barrows brings experience to Northwestern soccer as both a former semi-professional player and coach.

He started his love of soccer at age 7 in St. Louis where he grew up and trained under former professional players from Europe and South America.

Barrows started his semi-professional career playing for F.C. Monterey in 1976 as their right wing player. He then moved on to play in South Korea for the United Stars as the center forward during 1977-78.

His ties with Northwestern started in 1980 when he was a player/coach for the Rangers.

After he graduated from Northwestern in 1984 with degrees in Psychology and Sociology, he continued his tour of soccer playing. He was a player and captain for two teams in Albuquerque, New Mexico before playing and coaching for the Albuquerque Gunners from 1986-1990 where he became the general manager and president of the team.

Before Barrows made it back to Alva, he stopped at Kansas City from 1990-1992 and played for the Lobos, a member of a premier indoor soccer league.
Barrows completed his Masters of Education fron NWOSU in 2003.

Selina Lamar
Graduate Assistant Coach

Selina Lamar will begin her first season on the Ranger soccer coaching staff after finishing an excellent four-year career at Northwestern.

Lamar, from Lawton, Oklahoma, played in all 80 games as a defender and holds the record for most games played in a career and ties the record for most games played in a season with 21. During the 2003 and 2004 seasons, Lamar was selected as a NAIA honorable mention all-american. She was also selected to the Region VI all-region team and to the Sooner Athletic Conference all-conference team. For her outstanding defensive play in 2004, she was awarded the prestigious SAC Defensive Player of the Year title.

She received her bachelors degree in computer science last May and is further her education while working on an e-commerce degree.

Natasha Hunter
Student Assistant Coach

Natasha Hunter is also a new addition to the Ranger coaching staff. The Lubbock, Texas native will make the transition to coaching after playing for the Rangers in 2004.

Natasha was a defender for the Ranger soccer team and played in all 21 games last season. She scored a goal on a penalty against Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
Before arriving at Northwestern, Natasha played soccer for Sooner Athletic Conference rival Wayland Baptist. Before WBU closed their doors and she had to transfer, Hunter was a second-team all-conference performer during her junior season. She scored seven goals during her junior campaign and four goals as a sophomore.

Hunter is finishing her bachelors degree in psychology along with a minor in sociology. Her sister, Jenessa, will be a sophomore on this year’s team.
