Miss Northwestern 2013
Outstanding Teen 2013
Ashton Blewitt, a freshman from Helena, was named Miss Northwestern Oklahoma State University during the annual Miss Northwestern Pageant on Sunday. Alva native Taylor Hadwiger was crowned as Miss Northwestern’s Outstanding Teen.
Blewitt sang “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree,” and her platform is “The Responsibility of Driving.” Hadwiger performed a lyrical dance to “Your Song,” and she will work to promote her platform, “Peer Pressure: Holding True to Your Values.”
This year there was a People’s Choice vote. Voters had the opportunity to put $1 in for whomever they chose. Both Hadwiger and Blewitt won those awards and received a prize.
Blewitt also will receive a tuition scholarship and a cash scholarship as Miss Northwestern. She won a prize for having the most ad and ticket sales, too.
When Hadwiger attends college at Northwestern, she will receive a tuition scholarship.
Emily Ann Flanagan, the 2013 Miss Northwestern Star of Jet, will accompany Blewitt to the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant in Tulsa in June.
Madison Bird, a sophomore from Alva, was named first runner-up, and Tali McDonald, Alva junior, was chosen as the second runner-up in the Miss portion of the pageant. Each runner-up winner will receive tuition and cash scholarships.
Bird also won the Jordan Gaskill Scholarship, a $100 cash scholarship from Robert and Patti Gaskill. Gaskill held the Miss Northwestern title in 2007 and 2009, and this scholarship went to the Miss participant with the highest grade point average.
Victoria Kimbrell of Enid was named the first runner-up in the Teen portion of the pageant, and Kelsey Castle of Jet, was second runner-up. Each runner-up in the Teen category will receive a tuition scholarship if they choose Northwestern as their school of choice for college.
Blewitt received the Fitness Award. Steve Clausen of One Healthy Bod in Oklahoma City will provide nutrition and fitness counseling to her for winning this category.
Contestants in the pageant were judged in talent, interview, fitness in a swimsuit and onstage questions categories. Each contestant in both the Miss and Teen categories will receive cash participation scholarship awards.
Amber Seevers, Kinsley (Kan.) freshman, also participated in the Miss Northwestern Pageant. Teen contestants also included Sage Sunderland, Cheney Bird and Veronica Nelson, all of Alva.
Contestants for the Miss Northwestern Star program included Edie Raye Greenert of Enid, Kaitlyn Gilchrist of Seiling and Tiana Noyes of Alva.
