As the Regional Arts Network hub for northwest Oklahoma, Alva will host a Town Hall Meeting for the Arts and Humanities on Dec. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Runnymede Hotel, 402 Fourth St. There is no cost to participate.
Ken Kelsey, adjunct instructor of history and fine arts at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and the local hub’s director, encourages members of arts organizations, artists, educators, civic leaders and those involved in community and cultural development to attend. Reserve a space at the meeting by contacting Kelsey at (508) 603-0103 or kdkelsey@nwosu.edu.
During the meeting, staff of the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Oklahoma Humanities Council will discuss ways to increase funding and foster cultural development in northwest Oklahoma. Both agencies offer services and grants for cultural programming as a way of developing and strengthening local economies, cultural life and educational opportunities throughout Oklahoma.
The Town Hall Meeting will include a grant-writing workshop, networking opportunities and breakout consultations with agency staff. Consultations will provide participants an opportunity for receiving feedback on areas such as grants, arts education, festival programming, art exhibitions, humanities projects and more.
For additional information, contact Kelsey or Georgia Williams, Oklahoma Arts Council, at (405) 521-2931 or georgia@arts.ok.gov. Information on the Arts Council may be found at www.arts.ok.gov and information from the local hub may be found at www.nwosu.edu/alva-regional-hub-ok-arts.
The next local meeting is scheduled for May 5, 2011, in Alva.
