R. Alex Haynes is in his first year on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University coaching staff. His previous coaching experience consists of being the running backs coach at his alma mater, Summerville High School in 2008.
Prior to accepting the position of running backs coach for Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Coach Haynes has been working in the behavioral health industry at psychiatric hospitals and group homes for children and adolescents.
While at Newberry College, Coach Haynes was a three-year starter at running back accumulating many accolades. The school won its first South Atlantic Conference Championship in 2006. Haynes accumulated many All-Conference, All-Region and All-American selections. The South Carolina native played in the East Coast Bowl All-Star Game in 2007 and is the current single-game rushing record holder in Newberry history.
Coach Haynes has a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education with a concentration in Leisure Services from Newberry College with a minor in Coaching.
He was born and raised in Summerville, S.C., and is a graduate of Summerville High School where he was a two-year starting running back for John McKissick, football’s all-time winningest coach at any level with 594 victories. While there he helped set the record for most wins and set the current school single-game rushing record. During his career Coach McKissick’s picked up his 500th victory.
Coach Haynes is the son of Sabrina Haynes and is the oldest of four children, Millacent (24), Jerrall (23), Brandon (21).
