About the NWOSU Rodeo Team

NWOSU is in the Central Plains region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA).  During the Fall semester, there are four NIRA rodeos that NWOSU participates in (including the NIRA rodeo in Alva that NWOSU hosts).  The Spring semester includes six NIRA rdeos.  NWOSU is one of the more centrally located colleges in the Central Plains region with only one rodeo being slightly over 300 miles from Alva.  NWOSU has the largest team in the Central Plains region.

The NWOSU Rodeo Team has much support with NWOSU as the Alva community as evidenced by the community support during the NWOSU NIRA rodeo.  Due to a donation of a local couple, NWOSU has acquired approximately 20 acres close to town which will house the NWOSU Rodeo Team in the near future.  The NWOSU Rodeo Team currently utilizes the Woods County Fairgrounds for practice facilities which includes one outdoor arena, an outdoor calf roping lane, and an indoor arena, as well as indoor stalls and outdoor runs.  Practice stock for events such as team roping, calf roping, steer wrestling, and goat tying are provided.

Rodeo scholarships of varying amounts may be available for some team members in addition to other NWOSU scholarships which are based on factors such as academic performance.  Each prospective team member needs to complete a Rodeo Scholarship Application.  Rodeo scholarships may be available in varying amounts based on past rodeo accomplishments, academics, attitude, and dedication as well as G.P.A. and A.C.T. score.  You will need to complete a Rodeo Scholarship Application (available at http://www.nwosu.edu/rodeo-member-forms)  and visit with the coach to discuss scholarships that may be available for you. You should also create a video displaying your rodeo abilities.  Videos can be shared with the coach in several ways: 1) uploaded to the internet on sites such as youtube and a link provided to the coach, 2) attached to an email or 3) mail DVD to coach.   Information about NWOSU tuition and fees and other NWOSU scholarships and financial aid is available at http://www.nwosu.edu/costs

Campus housing is available for all students as well as meal plans.  The community also offers some housing opportunities for students looking to live off campus.  All freshmen are required to live on campus unless such criteria are met.  Additional information about the freshmen housing requirement is available at http://www.nwosu.edu/freshman-housing.

The NWOSU Rodeo Team is a part of the Athletics department at NWOSU.  All team members must abide by the rules in the NWOSU Athletic Handbook which is available at  http://www.nwosu.edu/student-athlete-handbook1.
