Head Softball Coach

Cody Hooper begins his eighth season at the helm of the Ranger softball program. Hooper holds a 202-169 (.554) overall record in seven seasons since the program started at Northwestern.

Last season, Hooper turned in a 24-29 record and recorded his 200th win on May 4, 2007 in a 4-2 win over Oklahoma Baptist in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. The 2007 squad went on to play for the conference championship, falling to St. Gregory’s in the finals.

During the 2006 season, Hooper recorded his third consecutive and fifth overall season with 30 or more wins.

He posted back-to-back 30-win seasons during the first two seasons (2001 and 2002) of his Northwestern tenure.

In seven seasons, Hooper has coached 20 Sooner Athletic Conference all-conference selections, including 13 first-team members and 11 second team selections. In addition, he has produced four Region VI selections and four NAIA Academic All-Americans.

A native of Farmington, N.M., Hooper double-majored at Northwestern, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 1985 and with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1990. In May of 2002, Hooper earned a master’s degree in secondary education.

Hooper was a strong pitcher for the Rangers during his four-year stint (1982-85) and was selected as an Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference first-team pitcher in 1985.

He is married to Machelle, an Alva High School graduate, and has two sons: Taylor, 18; and Ty, 12.

Student Assistant Softball Coach

Former Ranger softball outfielder Tiffany Schleve begins her third season as the Rangers’ student assistant coach.

Schleve returned to Northwestern after a year as an assistant coach at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Neb., under head coach Maria Winn.

She was an NAIA Scholar-Athlete who played for the Rangers during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. In her two-year career as a Ranger, she held over a .300 batting average in 90 games played.

Before arriving in Alva, Schleve was the starting centerfielder for two seasons at Barton County (Kan.) Community College. While at Barton, she was an all-conference and all-region selection in the outfield.

A native of Gering, Neb., Schleve was named to the all-state team during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons at Gering High School.

Schleve was a summa cum laude honor graduate at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and received her bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in health and physical education in May of 2004. She will receive her master’s degree in secondary education with an emphasis in history along with her a double major in health and sport science.
