Rhett Radcliff (6-2* PG * Forgan, Okla., Forgan High School) was a major part of Forgan's state championship teams in both his junior and senior seasons. The point guard lost just three games over the final two years of his playing career and just 10 times over his four-year varsity career. Radcliff scored 16.1 points, grabbed 6.2 rebounds and dished 5.4 assists per game for his career.

"Rhett is a true point guard that can really shoot and does a great job of getting his teammates the ball in good spots, Brown said. "This kid does not have any glaring weaknesses and does everything on the floor very well. He fits in really well with our style of play and I love the way he runs the show."

Ryan Radcliff (6-2 * SG * Forgan, Okla., Forgan High School) averaged 14.6 points per game over his four year varsity career. Ryan, like his twin brother, won two consecutive state championships and lost just 10 games over his four-year varsity career. Ryan Radcliff also averaged just under seven rebounds and two steals for his career. He was a state champion high jumper in 2010 and a four-year all-conference football player. The young man is passionate about academics, too, as he earned a 3.15 grade point average in high school. He also was the Oklahoma University Engineering Contest Champion in 2010.

"Ryan plays with a ton of energy and impacts the game with his athleticism, energy and toughness. He has a scorer's mentality and can score in a variety of ways," Brown said. "I love the way he rebounds and defends, and he will be a big part of what we're doing at Northwestern."

Dwight McElroy (6-4 * PF * Chouteau HS, Chouteau, Okla.) avearaged 13.6 points per game over a 100-game career at Chouteau. He was named the Super Seven Conference's Most Valuable Player during his senior season averaging 19 points and 14.5 rebounds per game. McElroy shot 63 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the arc. McElroy was named to the Super Seven All-Conference teams in both his sophomore and junior year as well.

"Dwight is a really physical tough power forward that has the ability to hit the perimeter shot, post up and get to the basket off the dribble," Brown said. "I really like his intensity and his energy."

Demarcus Sparks ( 6-4 * PF * Aldine High School, Houston, Texas) averaged 15 points and 15 rebounds per game during his senior season at Aldine High School. Sparks also averaged six blocks per game and was named First Team All-District in Texas. He was the team's captain and named to the All-Tournament team for the Houston Jaycees.

"Demarcus plays like he's 6-7 because of his energy and wing span. He is very raw but has a ton of upside and his work ethic will allow him to reach his potential," Brown said. "He is a very good shot blocker, rebounder and really defends. I think his best basketball is ahead of him."

Jackson Harris (6-4 * F * St. Pius X High School, Houston, Texas) was a two-year starter at St. Pius averaging 11 points and seven rebounds a game. He was named Second Team All-District for the 2010-11 season and First Team All-District for the 2011-12 season. Harris has excelled in the classroom earning a 3.4 grade point average.

"Jackson is a really hard worker that is determined to be a good college player. We love his work ethic, his toughness and his willingess to do whatever it takes to win," Brown said. "Jackson shoots the perimeter shot well and brings toughness to the boards."

Bruce Wright (6-8* Northlake College) averaged 12 points and seven rebounds per game at Northlake College. Wright shot 49 percent from the field and 37 percent from outside the arc. He was named Third Team All-Conference and the team's captain. He was a force inside blocking 27 shots in 2011-12.

"He is a true stretch at the four," Brown said. "He can really shoot the ball, plays really hard and has the ability to post up and score. I like his versatility and the attitude he will bring to our team."

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University men's basketball team picked up a huge 81-73 win over Lubbock Christian University on Saturday but will not make the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament by virtue of losing a three-way tiebreaker to Oklahoma City University.

NWOSU, Oklahoma City and Mid-America Christian were all tied at 9-13 in the SAC for the final spot which goes to Oklahoma City by virtue of having the best head-to-head record against the other two teams tied. (NWOSU, MACU). The Rangers went 2-2 against MACU and Oklahoma City while Oklahoma City went 3-1 against NWOSU and MACU.

The Rangers received a stellar performance from Daryl Glover, who scored a team-high 20 points. Junior Marshall Bell wasn't far behind nailing four triples and scoring 19 points in the game.

Glover's layup at the end of the first half gave the Rangers a 27-22 lead.

Northwestern kept the pressure on early in the second half. Bell hit a triple to give NWOSU a 53-40 lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the game. NWOSU shot over 59 percent in the second half.

Lubbock was able to cut the lead to seven but couldn't come any closer. Head coach Andrew Brown's squad knocked down its free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Eze Akwari and Thiago Guilherme finished the game with nine rebounds each.

The Rangers finish the season tied for eighth in the SAC (12-17 overall, 9-13 SAC).

Northwestern falls 97-79 against Wayland Baptist

<itunes:author>Allan Scarabello</itunes:author>

PLAINVIEW, Texas - Things got out of hand early for the Northwestern Oklahoma State University men's basketball team in a 97-79 loss against Wayland Baptist on Thursday evening.

A 12-0 run by Wayland put Northwestern down 24-10 in the early going. The Rangers (11-17, 8-13 Sooner Athletic Conference) never could recover. NWOSU shot just 28 percent from the field in the first half, a major reason they were far behind. NWOSU went to the locker room down 17.

Northwestern shot far better in the second half shooting 53 percent but Wayland was feeling it all night shooting 58 percent in the first half and 76 percent in the second half.

Daryl Glover led the Rangers with 16 points while Jonathan Freemyer added 13.

The loss makes the Ranger postseason outlook bleak as the squad is a full game behind Oklahoma City with one game to go for the eighth and final spot in the SAC Tournament. Mid-America Christian is also tied with the Rangers in ninth.

The final game of the regular season for the Rangers will be a 3 p.m. Saturday affair at Lubbock Christian. Live Stats, video and audio will be available here.

The Rangers fought hard and held an 11-point lead going in to the break and had a lead as big as 16 points.

John Brown went on a 9-0 run over a one minute, 24 second stretch to cut the Rangers lead from 16 to seven. Daryl Glover was hot the entire first half and nailed a three to end the Golden Eagles run. Ryan Bruce hit a shot at the buzzer from near half court to extend the Rangers lead to 11.

The NWOSU lead evaporated quickly as John Brown went on a 15-1 over the first six minutes of the second half to take a 47-44 lead. The game went back and forth until three minutes remained. At that point, the Golden Eagles went on a 7-0 and took a six-point lead with just under two minutes to go.

Marshall Bell nailed a triple with 10 seconds remaining to cut the John Brown lead to two points, but, after a NWOSU foul, John Brown's Thomas Galliguez nailed both free throws to ice the game. Freemyer scored as time expired but it wasn't enough as the Rangers fell to 11-14 and 8-10 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Freemyer took over offensively in the second half scoring 15 points. His 19-point effort tonight allows him to join teammate Marshall Bell in the 1000-point club.

Jeremy Felton's three point play with nine minutes to go highlighted a 7-0 giving the Rangers the lead for good. That lead marked the first time the Rangers had the lead since about midway through the first half.

ALVA, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State men's basketball team made a late push at Lubbock Christian but fell just short 76-73 in a pivotal Sooner Athletic Conference game at Percefull Fieldhouse on Thursday evening.

The Chaparrals came in to today's game a half game behind the Rangers in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings.

The Rangers were down double-digit points in the closing minutes but poor free throw shooting by the Chaparrals allowed the Rangers back in the game.

After the Rangers cut the lead to three with under 30 seconds left, Andrew Brown's team put the pressure on Lubbock Christian's inbounder. Freemyer and bell forced a turnover on the pass with Freemyer getting to the loose ball. The junior picked the ball up laid it in the hoop and was fouled on the play. He was unable to convert on the free throw to tie the game.

After a foul, the Chaparrals hit one of two free throws to make it a two-point game. The Rangers had one more possession to either tie or win the game but were unable to complete the comeback. The Rangers fouled and, after a missed free throw, Freemyer heaved a prayer at the buzzer that fell short.

Freemyer and Daryl Glover each scored 16 points to lead the Rangers (10-12, 7-8 SAC) while Eze Akwari added 14. Marshall Bell finished with 13 and nailed four triples. Akwari finished with a team-high nine rebounds.

ALVA, Okla. - After struggling for most of the game, the Northwestern Oklahoma State University men's basketball team found its stroke at the right time coming back to defeat Oklahoma City 55-51 in a game it needed to win on Hall of Fame induction day to keep themselves in good position to make the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.

With the game tied, Oklahoma City went on a 9-0 run with 6:27 remaining in the game. NWOSU answered Oklahoma City's run with a 12-2 run highlighted by threes from Marshall Bell and Jonathan Freemyer. After Oklahoma City knotted the game on a free throw, Daryl Glover drove to the paint and scored with 1:07 remaining giving the Rangers at two-point lead.

The defense, which was outstanding all game for the Rangers, came up big again. Bell's steal gave the Rangers the ball with about 40 seconds remaining. He shot a triple that went in and out but Eze Akwari, who scored a game-high 15 points, tipped Bell's miss in giving the Rangers a four-point lead with 16 seconds left in the contest.

Bell's steal culminated an outstanding defensive effort by the Rangers (10-11, 7-7 Sooner Athletic Conference). NWOSU held Oklahoma City to three points over the final 6:27 as well as forcing the Stars to shoot just under 33 percent from the field. Along with keeping them to a low field goal percentage, the defense also forced the Stars into 22 turnovers.

It wasn't pretty for NWOSU on the offensive end as they struggled early shooting just 29 percent in the first half. The Rangers bounced back to shot 40 percent in the second half.

Jeremy Felton came off the bench scoring 13 points while Bell rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10. Akwari fell just short of a double-double with nine rebounds.

The win further muddles up a log jam for the last several spots in the eight team conference tournament to be held at John Brown starting March 1. As it currently sits, with some Saturday results in and some not, the Rangers sit in seventh just a half game behind Oklahoma Christian.
Prior to the game, Al Hunt, Marlena Johnson, Lynn Scott and Slade Young were all inducted in to the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Athletics Hall of Fame.

Head coach Andrew Brown and his staff all took part in the NAIA's Coaches vs. Cancer promotion by wearing suits with sneakers.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Despite Jonathan Freemyer and his game-high 25 points, the Rangers fell 85-82 to Mid-America Christian University on Thursday evening.

An Eze Akwari three cut the MACU lead to one with about 40 seconds remaining in the game. The Rangers were forced to foul and Camilo Valencia made one of two free throws to extend the MACU lead to two. With 17 seconds left, NWOSU turned the ball over and the Evangels made their free throws down the stretch to close the game.

The game was back and forth for the entire second half. A 6-0 run by MACU gave the Evangels a one-point lead before Jeremy Felton made a layup helping the Rangers regain the lead with just over nine minutes to go in reguation.

The game continued to go back and forth down the stretch. Freemyer picked up his fourth foul with about eight minutes remaining so the Rangers needed to find another scoring option.

Marshall Bell answered nailing a big three with about four minutes remaining to give the Rangers a three-point lead.

It didn't appear as if the Rangers would need to press down the stretch.

The Rangers jumped out to a fast start scoring the first nine points of the game against the Evangels and dominated all but the final three minutes of the first half. A jumper off the glass by Bell gave NWOSU an 11-point lead, but a 12-0 run capped off by a three at the buzzer gave the Evangels a 37-36 lead going in to the break.

Freemyer lit the Evangels up for 15 points in the first half including two triples. Jeremy Felton finished with 18 points while Bell had 17. Akwari rounded out the NWOSU double-digit scorers with 1 points. Freemyer's 10 rebounds gave him a double-double for the game.

An 8-0 run cut a 10-point NWOSU lead to two points, but all-time threes leader Marshall Bell nailed a three to up the lead to five with nine minutes to go.

The game went back and forth until the final minutes. Thiago Guilherme's bucket gave the Rangers (9-10, 6-6 SAC) a three-point lead at 61-58, but a Cavaliers basket on the next trip down cut the lead to one with five minutes to go.

Ryan Bruce hit a huge three with just under four minutes to play to put the lead to open up a six-point lead. After the Cavaliers answered, Bruce came up big again with another basket.
On the ensuing possession, Bruce forced a Cavaliers turnover and was fouled. He went 1-for-2 from the line to increase the lead to seven points.

Daryl Glover's layup extended the NWOSU run to 8-0. His free throw put the Rangers up 10. About 30 seconds later, Jonathan Freemyer's layup put the game out of reach for the Cavaliers with just over a minute to go.

The Rangers had a seven-point lead and could not hold it as the Golden Eagles were able to force overtime. John Brown's Abel Galliguez, who torched the Rangers all game long hit a triple to give the Golden Eagles a five-point lead with three minutes to go in overtime.

Jonathan Freemyer and Jeremy Felton hit shots to get NWOSU within one, but Thomas Galliguez made all of his free throws down the stretch. Daryl Glover's desperation three at the buzzer was off the mark giving No. 20 John Brown the win.

The way the game ended was not the way it began for NWOSU.

NWOSU started the first half on fire. A jumper by Ryan Bruce gave the Rangers (7-9, 4-5 SAC) a 28-16 lead with just over seven minutes to go, but the tide turned quickly. For the final seven minutes of the half, John Brown went on a 30-4 run to take a 46-32 lead.

Head coach Andrew Brown and his squad found some energy in the second half. Over a three minute stretch, NWOSU cut the Golden Eagles lead from 13 to two. Freemyer scored five of his team-high 30 points during the 11-0 run.

Marshall Bell's triple gave NWOSU its first lead since the first half. Freemyer's three-point play gave NWOSU a five-point lead with just over six minutes to go.

After a foul, Glover made one of two free throws to give the Rangers a seven-point lead with 1:41 remaining in regulation.

The Rangers had no answer for John Brown's Abel Galliguez, who scored a game-high 31 points and nailed two threes in the final 1:41 to get the Golden Eagles within striking distance. EJ McWoods' three with 16 seconds left tied the game at 90 and Glover missed at the buzzer for the win.

Felton finished with 18 points while Glover finished with 11. Freeyer led the Rangers with nine rebounds.

BETHANY, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University men's basketball team stayed close for a half, but the Crimson Storm pulled away in the second half for a 70-54 win at the Sawyer Center on Saturday evening.

NWOSU was in it for the first half and had its biggest lead of the game at 17-11 via a Marshall Bell jumper.

Jonathan Freemyer's basket gave the Rangers a 21-19 lead but SNU rattled off an 8-0 run to take a six-point lead. A Daryl Glover triple cut the lead to four at 27-24.

Ryan Bruce's three-pointer cut the lead to 31-30 with 49 seconds left in the half, but two SNU free throws made the game 33-30 going in to the break.

Unforunately for NWOSU, the game got out of hand in the second half. The Rangers were held scoreless for the first three minutes of the half. During that time the Crimson Storm went on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 10 points. Jeremy Felton's dunk stopped SNU's 7-0 run and led to a 7-0 run by the Rangers which was highlighted by Glover's three-point play.

ALVA, Okla. - At the risk of sounding cliche, the Northwestern Oklahoma State University men's basketball team enjoys some home cooking. The Rangers knocked off the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma 82-74 for their sixth consecutive home win to start the season.

Today's win was achieved with a total team effort offensively. The Rangers (7-7, 4-3 Sooner Athletic Conference) had five scorers in double figures and were lead by forward Thiago Guilherme's 16 points.

Marshall Bell scored 15 and Jeremy Felton added 14 points while Jonathan Freemyer had 11 and Daryl Glover had 10.

Not only were there many contributors, but they contributed fast. Guilherme and Eze Akwari scored all the points during a 12-2 run to begin the game. Guilherme nailed two triples during the stretch.

Glover slashed through the lane and converted a layup to put the Rangers up 14 and Ryan Bruce hit a shot on the team's next possession to give NWOSU its biggest lead of the game at 35-19.

The Drovers proved to be a resilient bunch putting together a 10-2 run to end the half closing the gap to eight points.

NWOSU maintained a double-digit lead for about eight minutes before USAO put together a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 56-51.

The Drovers came within two points at 75-73 after Brandon Cutler scored on a drive to the basket with 1:52 remaining in the game.

NWOSU was able to make just enough free throws down the stretch to hold on. Freemyer, who added 11 points for the Rangers, hit a jumpber with 16 seconds remaining that proved to be a dagger.

Felton led NWOSU with 9 rebounds.

The Rangers will continue SAC play against Southern Nazarene with 5 p.m. slated as the tip time.
(12-31-11) – Northwestern Oklahoma State University junior guard Marshall Bell became the 21st player in school history to enter the 1,000-Point Club, as the Rangers roll over the visiting Mid-America Christian Evangel on Saturday, 98-78.

Bell was one of seven Rangers who finished the game in double-figures as he ends up with 11 and a total of 1,001 points for his career. He now looks to continue to move up the career scoring list, pursuing the all-time Rangers leader Hank Commodore (1967-71) with 1,865.

A native of Katy, Texas, Bell also needs nine more three-point baskets to tie the school record of 219. He is the Northwestern career leader for three-point attempts, a mark he passed on Dec. 1 at Oklahoma Baptist.

Teammate Thiago Guilherme finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds for his second double-double in as many games. His rebound total led the Rangers, who have now pulled down 107 boards in the last two games after a 54 board performance at Kansas Wesleyan this past Wednesday.

Other Rangers with double-figure scoring against the Evangels was Jeremy Felton who led with 20, point guard Daryl Glover had 15, Jonathan Freemyer and Ryan Bruce joined Bell with 11 and Jesse Smith added 10. Smith’s total came in just seven minutes of action.

MACU’s Charlie Shorter hit half of his shots from the floor, converting 12 to lead all scorers with 33 points.

The Rangers took advantage of Evangel defensive breakdowns in the contest, recording 18 assists, just one shy of their season high total at Kansas Wesleyan.

Northwestern took at 32 point lead into the halftime break at 57-25. Quickly coming out of the break, the Rangers held a 35 point lead on the visitors. The Evangels cut the lead to 22 with about 10 minutes remaining the in the game, but that was as close as they would get.

The Rangers improve their overall record to 6-6 and their conference mark at 3-2. On Monday, they hit the road for an always tough contest at Oklahoma City University inside Abe Lemons Arena.

Originally schedule for an 8 p.m. start, the two squads will tip off on Monday evening.

Ranger men back on track after blowout victory over Kansas Wesleyan

<itunes:author>Eric Scott</itunes:author>

Box Score

(12-28-11) – Northwestern Oklahoma State University men’s basketball team got back on track in their first game of the second half of the season as they blowout Kansas Wesleyan on the road, 103-67.

It was the first road win of the season for the Rangers after dropping their first six games away from their home gym.

For the first time since the 2008 season, the Rangers finished about 60 percent shooting as they converted 33-of-54 shots for 61 percent.

The contest was full of highs as the Rangers tied a school record for rebounds in a game with 54, a mark that has been reached twice before against now defunct Phillips University in 1990 and ’93. Seniors Thiago Guilherme and Jeremy Felton each pulled down 15 and 13 boards, respectively, both career highs at Northwestern.

Guilherme finished with a game high of 20 points, while teammate Marshall Bell came in behind him with 17. Eze Akwari ended with a career high of 13 points, and Andrew McNabb had his largest output in his short time as a Ranger with 11.

Northwestern (5-6, 2-2) returns to conference play on New Year’s Eve in Alva as they host Mid-America Christian at 5 p.m. The women’s programs of the two schools will kick action off at 3 p.m. inside Percefull Fieldhouse.

Admission is free for all in attendance, with doors opening approximately an hour and a half prior to tip.

In the New Year’s Eve contest, Bell, a junior from Katy, Texas, will need just 10 points to enter the coveted 1,000-point club. He is also pursuing the Northwestern career record for three-pointers made, currently sitting at 209, just 10 shy record held by Ramon Byndom (1998-2000).

Against KWU, Guilherme set the tone early for the Rangers, knocking down a three-pointer in their first possession. The two squads went back and fourth, and with the Rangers down 16-15 with 12:55, Akwari hit a three-point basket of his own to help the Rangers regain the lead.

With a tie ballgame at 22 at the 9:20 mark of the first half, the sixth tie of the afternoon, Bell triggered Ranger run with a shot from behind the arc. Northwestern closed out the half by outscoring the Coyotes, 24-11, entering the locker room with a comfortable lead, 46-33.

During the second stanza, Northwestern continued to gradually build their lead, extending it to a 40-point deficit at 100-60 with just over a minute to go with an easy two-point basket by Jesse Smith.

Tyler Inman closed out the scoring a three-point basket.

Other Rangers scoring in double-figures was Felton with 13 to complete a double-double, and fellow big man Jonathan Freemyer with 13 as well.

Northwestern men run into surging Eagles in loss

<itunes:author>Eric Scott</itunes:author>

EDMOND, Okla. (12-1-11) – The Northwestern Oklahoma State University men’s basketball team fell victim at the hands of Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday night in Edmond, 71-53.

The two squads each struggled offensively with the Eagles holding a bucket lead at halftime, 26-24. Through the first ten minutes of the contest, the two teams traded leads three separate times, with either team’s biggest lead being no more than a three point deficit.

However, Oklahoma Christian jumped out to a ten point 14:24 to go in the game following a run by the home team.

The Rangers were able to cut it to an eight point Eagle lead with 7:34 when Marshall Bell knocked down a pair of buckets from the charity stripe. Unfortunately, that was the closest the Rangers would get to the surging Eagles.

Both Northwestern and the Eagles were receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Div. I Coaches’ Poll.

Bell was the only Ranger to finish in double-figures in the contest with 11. However, all but one Northwestern player that saw the floor finished with at least two points.

Despite out-rebounding the Eagles, the home team shot 50 percent in the second and knocked down 11-of-14 free throws to help expand the difference late. On the flip side, Northwestern only got to the line 11 times.

One aspect that hurt the Rangers was in the turnover department. The Rangers turned the ball over 21 times, while forcing just 11.

Northwestern drops 4-6 overall on the season and 1-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference. They will battle for their first road victory when they return to the court on Dec. 28 at Kansas Wesleyan.

On New Year’s Eve, they return to conference play as they host Mid-America Christian at home. (12-3-11) — Three Northwestern Oklahoma State University men’s basketball players finish in double-figures as the Rangers keep their home record perfect following a victory over St. Gregory’s, 78-62.

Jonathan Freemyer continues to improve on his season average with an 18 point game in the victory, while Marshall Bell had three three-pointers and 17 points and Daryl Glover added 14.

The Northwestern defense played strong, forcing the Cavaliers to 19 turnovers. All but two Rangers that saw action recorded a steal, led by Freemyer who had three in the first half.

Down quickly to the Cavaliers, 2-0, Bell stepped up as he always does, draining a shot from behind the arc on the right wing to take the lead. Bell’s first three came with 17:37 on the clock, and the Rangers never looked back, taking the lead into the locker, 29-20.

Just a junior, Bell continues his push for the three-point record at Northwestern. He currently needs 14 to eclipse the mark.

In the second half, the Cavaliers held on strong until about the ten minute mark the when Rangers began to expand their lead. With 7:27, Northwestern had their largest lead of the game at 23.

The Rangers held off the pesky Cavaliers who cut the lead to 75-62 late in the contest.

Northwestern’s victory is the eighth straight over the Cavaliers under the direction of head coach Andrew Brown. During that stretch, the Rangers have won by and average deficit of more than 14 points.

Up next for the Rangers is a showdown against conference foe Oklahoma Christian. (12-1-11) – Junior guard Marshall Bell found his way into the Northwestern Oklahoma State University record book on Thursday night in the Rangers loss at Oklahoma Baptist, 78-59.

Entering the contest, Bell needed just seven three-pointers to tie the career record for three-point attempts, knocking one down with just over six minutes remaining in the game to break the mark. He added another one just a minute later to extend the record to 541 for his career.

The two three-pointers made was a part of small flurry of Rangers baskets, including nine straight points by Bell, to cut the Bison lead to under 20. Northwestern was never able to get the lead to less than 15 points late in the contest.

Oklahoma Baptist had previously jumped out on the Rangers quickly in the first half, building up a 25-point lead heading into the locker room at the break.

The home team had trouble containing Jonathan Freemyer in the paint as he picked up 17 points and seven boards to lead the Rangers. Bell added a total of four threes on nine attempts, finishing as the only other Ranger in double figures with 16.

Bell now needs 17 three-point makes to tie the Northwestern career record, as well as 55 to reach the 1000-point club.

Despite a good rebounding night for Freemyer, as well as five from Daryl Glover and Andrew McNabb, the Rangers were outrebounded by the Bison, 41-34.

Up next for Northwestern is a match up with up-and-coming St. Gregory’s at home on Saturday.
The game was a tight battle early on, but the high tempo offense of the Saints pulled away about mid-way through the first half. When the two squads entered the locker room after the first 20 minutes of play, the Rangers found themselves in a hole, 47-27.

In the second half, Northwestern was able to cut the lead to 14 with seven minutes to go when Daryl Glover found Dylan Fife for a basket to make it 78-64. However, the Saints put together an 11-0 run to put away any hopes the Rangers had of a comeback.

Glover’s assist on Fife’s basket was one of six he had in the contest, his second straight six-assist game. He finished with 12 points, 10 of which came from the charity stripe.

In the two games this season the Rangers and Saints have taken the court against each other, Northwestern has taken 88 free throws. On Friday night, the Rangers were 25-of-40 from the line.

Senior Jeremy Felton was the leading scoring for the Rangers, finishing with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while also leading the team in rebounds with seven. Felton also added two blocks in the contest.

Eze Akwari joined Glover with 12 points and Fife had 10.

When the Rangers got solid looks at the basket, they took advantage by converting more than 53-percent of their shots. However, the Saints are a very physical and frustrating defense, forcing the Rangers to turn over the ball 32 times. The home team won the points off turnover battle, 31-to-11.

Northwestern has an opportunity to get back on track before resuming conference play next Thursday at Oklahoma Baptist, as they playing and exhibition contest on Sunday against Texas State.
(11-21-11) — Four Northwestern Oklahoma State University men’s basketball players finished with double-figures on Monday as the Rangers snapped a three game losing streak with a victory over Oklahoma Christian, 72-61.

Northwestern (3-3, 1-0) is just beginning a busy week as they travel to San Antonio, Texas, for a contest on Friday against Our Lady of the Lake. On Sunday, they are faced with a tough task as they take on NCAA Div. I Texas State in San Marcos.

In the opening game of the week against the Eagles, the Rangers came out looking as if they were going to control the game from the beginning. Following a missed bucket by the visitors on their opening possession, Jonathan Freemyer knocked down three of his team high 15 points to give the Rangers an early lead.

However, it didn’t last long, as the Eagles came back and took the lead. The two teams traded leads several times before the Eagles hit a couple of three-pointers to extend to a six-point deficit.

Matching Oklahoma Christian basket for basket for a few minutes, the Rangers tied the game up for a fourth time in the contest with 7:41 on the clock as Jeremy Felton got a layup on the lane. Following an Eagle free-throw, the Rangers jumped back in front with 5 minutes remaining on a basket from Dylan Fife.

The Rangers and Eagles battled it out through the end of the first half, heading into their locker rooms with the game tied at 26. Through the first 20 minutes of play, there were seven ties and six lead changes.

The second half was a different story. From the opening inbound of the half, the Rangers jumped out on an 11-3, holding an eight-point lead just three minutes out of the locker rooms.

After the Eagles cut the lead to one after a quick burst of offense, the Rangers answered with another run. With 13 minutes remaining the in contest, Marshall Bell hit a huge three-point shot on a fast break to go up ten, followed a fast break layup off the same hand only seconds later.

Bell finished with 12 points in the contest, just below his season average. The junior is now on a collision course with the 1,000-point milestone, just 76 points shy of the club.

Daryl Glover was the fourth Ranger with a double-figure scoring output with 11.

Following another easy layup in the paint by Felton, who also finished with 12 points, Eze Akwari put the nail in the coffin with a three-pointer to extended the Rangers lead to 16 with just six minutes to go, 62-46.

Despite their good efforts to get back in the game, the Rangers defense was just too much for the Eagles.

Northwestern forced Oklahoma Christian to turn the ball over 20 times, taking it away with a steal 12 times. Thiago Guilherme and Akwari each had three of their own in the game.

The defense also forced the Eagles into one of their worst shooting performances of the season as they finished with just 16 field goals in the game for 33.3-percent. By contrast, the Rangers shot 42.9-percent, knocking down a total of eight from behind the arc.

Monday’s hard fought victory was just one of many battles in recent years. The Eagles have had a slight edge in the past nine matchups between the two schools, winning five.
