In bareback, Chancy Lovinggood won the event, while Cody Burkholder was right behind for a second place finish. Kody Woodward won the steer wrestling event, while Johnson came in second place.</span></p>

More than 500 student competitors from 20-plus colleges and universities are expected to participate. The rodeo is a sanctioned event of the Central Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.</span></p>

Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children. Tickets are being sold by all rodeo team members and by coach Tim Kolb, who can be reached at (580) 327-8688. They also will be sold at the gate.</span></p>

<p style="background: white; margin-bottom: 0pt; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: #1f1e1b; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">“Everyone should be really excited about the rodeo because it is a great event for the community,” Kolb said. “Many competitors, along with their families and friends, are in town for at least two days, which really helps boost the community’s economy.” Barring inclement weather, “Rodeo Days” will be held on the square for Alva’s elementary school children on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. Rodeo team members will be on hand to explain the different events and demonstrate some of them.</span></p>
<p style="background: white; margin-bottom: 0pt; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: #1f1e1b; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"></span></p>
<p style="background: white; margin-bottom: 0pt; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: #1f1e1b; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Ten to 12 contestants in each of the nine collegiate rodeo events will be on center stage during the Thursday and Friday night performances. The top 10 in each event will return for the championship go-round on Saturday night.</span></p>
<p style="background: white; margin-bottom: 0pt; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: #1f1e1b; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">The events are bareback bronc riding, tie-down roping, breakaway calf roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, goat tying, team roping, barrel racing and bullriding. Two sections of the popular bull riding event will be run on Thursday and Friday nights. <br />
The rest of the contestants will appear in the “slack” performances starting at 9 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Participation in the performance or slack rounds is decided by random draw.</span></p>

On Thursday night, Northwestern student teams will attempt to milk wild cows, and students will be admitted for $4 with a current I.D. card.</span></p>

Several animals will be marked to denote prize winners. </span></p>
<p style="background: white; margin-bottom: 0pt; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: #1f1e1b; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">On Saturday night, when event and team winners are determined, there will be a relay race up and down the arena by cowboys and cowgirls representing different schools. However, they will all be on foot—not horseback.</span></p>

His love of rodeo began as a small child and grew into competitive bareback riding, team roping and bullriding. Wellden has enjoyed riding bareback horses for more than 16 years. Wellden is an official announcer and resides in Guthrie with his wife Shawn and their three children.</span></p>

McDonald of Abilene, Kan., is a current student at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. He has fought bulls at Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma bull fighting events. Munsell was the 2005 and 2006 PBR Dickie’s World Champion Freestyle Bullfighter for the Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeo and the National High School Finals Rodeo. His goals are to work for the NFR and PBR Finals.</span></p>

In breakaway roping, Cindy Wood and Jade Inlow took sixth and seventh place, respectively, while Brittany Young tied for ninth.</span></p>

Northwestern tallied 555 points, followed by Southeastern Oklahoma State, who had 205 points.  </span></p>

The duo had an average score of 29.1 seconds with a low round of 5.4 during their third go.</span></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">With three Rangers in the steer wrestling event, Colt Stearns headed Northwestern as he came in a tie for eighth place, recording a total score of 15.8. Kody Woodward finished in 17<sup>th</sup>, while Trenton Johnson placed 35<sup>th</sup>.</span></p>

Luke Blanton, who was also competing in tie down roping, finished in a tie for 20<sup>th</sup> through three rounds of competition.</span></p>

The CNFR will be held in Casper, Wyoming at the Casper Events Center from June 14-20.</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">After 10 rodeos throughout the 2008-09 season, Chancy Lovinggood, Kody Woodward, Joe Macoubrie, Colt Stearns, Trenton Johnson and Luke Blanton have earned the honor to attend the CNFR. </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Steer wrestling is the most populated event by Northwestern, as three Rangers will compete. Woodward enters the CNFR as the leader in the Central Plains Region, while Stearns and Johnson are in 5<sup>th</sup> and 7<sup>th</sup> place spots, respectively.  </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Johnson will additionally compete in tie down roping, where he is currently second in the Central Plains Region. He won the steer wrestling title at the Northwestern Rodeo. </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Blanton will make back-to-back performances in tie down roping, finishing 28<sup>th</sup> in the event at the 2008 CNFR. He is currently third in the region and ten points back of Johnson.</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Macoubrie will be the header in team roping for Daniel Reid of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The duo placed first at the Oklahoma Panhandle State Rodeo and at the Southwestern Oklahoma State Rodeo and is in second place in the region.</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Lovinggood will be the lone Ranger in bareback riding. He leads the Central Plains Region by 220 points and placed first in the event during four rodeos, including winning the Pratt, Garden City, Southwestern Oklahoma and Northeastern Oklahoma A&amp;M Rodeos. </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Three cowgirls will compete in goat tying, while one each will participate in breakaway roping and barrel racing.</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Robbie Wilson will double up on two events, competing in breakaway roping and goat tying. Wilson is the regional leader in breakaway roping and is ranked third in goat tying. She finished first in goat tying at the Fort Scott (Kan.) rodeo.</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Brooke Inlow and Toya Vogt will also enter in goat tying. Inlow won the event at the Oklahoma Panhandle State and Southwestern Oklahoma State rodeos, while Vogt took the title at Rogers State. Inlow finished second in the region ahead of Wilson and was 32nd at last year’s CNFR, while Vogt is in sixth place in the Central Plains Region.</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Haley Nida, ranked fourth in the region, will be Northwestern’s only barrel racer. The Alva native won the barrel racing event at the Oklahoma Panhandle State rodeo.</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">“This is the rodeo team every coach dreams about and it is very humbling to be a part of it. I feel that we are taking the type of athletes who can come home with a National Title,” stated rodeo coach Tim Kolb.</span></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> “Our women’s team is going to the CNFR in 11<sup>th</sup> place nationally and our men’s team is in the top 25. Lovinggood is sitting in third place in the nation and I know he is eying the national bareback riding title. They all have the talent and dedication to win. Now we just have to go prove it.”</span></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">The CNFR is the “Rose Bowl” of college rodeo. It is where the National Intercollegiate Rode Association crown individual event champions in saddle bronc riding, bare back riding, bull riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying. Over 400 cowboys and cowgirls from 100 universities and colleges compete each year. Contestants compete all year in one of the NIRA’s 11 regions for a chance to rope or ride at the CNFR.</span></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">The Ranger men had no trouble in taking home the first place spot out of the nine team field, doubling second place Oklahoma Panhandle State’s score of 325. The Rangers received 650 points as Kody Woodward placed first in the men’s all-around. </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Woodward scored 210 points in the all-around while placing second in steer wrestling with a time of 7.8 and was fourth in tie down roping, with a 20.7.</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Northwestern placed in all but one event. Chancy Lovinggood won the bareback riding event with a 157.0, while Kenny Feidler took third. Ryan Selzer finished in a tie for ninth in steer wrestling. Joe Macoubrie and Trenton Johnson placed in tie down roping along with Woodward, taking the second and sixth place spots. Joe Macoubrie and Cole Wilson placed in team roping. </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">The men’s team finished in second in the Central Plains Region standings with 3,595 points. They were 1,347 points back of the Oklahoma Panhandle State. </span></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">On the women’s side, the Ranger women accumulated 80 points, but still remained in the lead in the Central Plains Region standings. The Rangers hold a 399 point lead over second place Oklahoma Panhandle State University. </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">The Ranger women took seven places out of three events. </span></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Four placed in barrel racing as Northwestern was responsible for the 2-5 spots. Blayne Kennedy was second with a 31.67, while Gabriel Gregg finished in third with a 31.78. Maggie Saylors took fourth place with a 31.81 and Haley Nida rounded out the Rangers in the event with a time a 36.59 for fifth place.</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';"> </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'verdana','sans-serif';">Morgan Blomgren and Kaylee Nelson placed in breakaway roping, while Robbie Wilson ended in sixth place in goat tying. </span></p>
