The Rangers added two more in the sixth on a two-RBI single by Flores.

Jeff Davis threw a scoreless seventh to preserve Martyn's eighth win of the season.
Johnson had three hits while Long, Flores and Mendoza each added two.

Northwestern will return to action on Thursday for the opening game of a three-game set against Oklahoma Baptist. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - With the help of 15 walks by Mid-America Christian pitching, the Northwestern Oklahoma State University baseball team won its seventh consecutive game 13-3 at James Curtis Field on Thursday.

Northwestern got on the board in the first when Juan Natal scored on a wild pitch after doubling earlier in the inning.

The Rangers (29-18, 13-9 Sooner Athletic Conference) scored three more times in the third. Camilo Baldelomar drove home Jarad Moore, who walked a season-high four times, with a single. A groundout by George Flores made the game 4-0.

The four runs turned out to be enough for starting pitcher Zac Floyd, who threw six strong innings giving up just six hits and three runs. The win for Floyd marks his fifth of the season.

Chase Kokojan threw two scoreless and Chase Randall's perfect ninth finished the victory for the Rangers.

Northwestern put the game away with five runs in the fourth inning. The big hits came off the bats of Jose Maysonet and Flores, who each had run-scoring singles. Maysonet's single plated two Rangers.

The Rangers added three runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth for good measure.

Natal, Maysonet and Flores each had two hits for Northwestern. Flores knocked in three runs while Maysonet, Wes Brorsen and Patrick Johnson each knocked in two runs.

Baldelomar, Maysonet and George Mendoza each walked three times in the contest.

The Rangers return home to Myers Stadium on Saturday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Mid-America Christian.
ALVA, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University baseball team didn't play its best game of the season, but it found a way to win its sixth straight game 9-8 on "Pack the Park" day over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Tuesday evening.

Northwestern scored six runs all after two men were out in the eighth inning to overcome an 8-3 deficit. Camilo Baldelomar started the rally with an infield single. Trevor long followed him with a sharp single up the middle. Jonathan Freemyer doubled down the left field line to drive in Baldelomar. Long also scored on the play, because of an error on the left fielder.

After Doug Seurer ran for Freemyer, Wes Brorsen singled him home to make the game 8-6. George Flores followed with a single. George Mendoza, who had an outstanding day at the plate with three hits, doubled home Brorsen to make the game 8-7. With runners on second and third, Jose Maysonet pinch hit for Patrick Johnson. Maysonet cracked a double to give the Rangers an improbable 9-8 lead.

Maysonet's double made a winner out of Jordan Flittie, who pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Derek Epps threw a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save.

The rally bailed out Northwestern (28-17, 12-9 Sooner Athletic Conference) as the Rangers looked flat for much of the game. Starting pitcher Jason Martyn didn't have his best stuff giving up five earned runs in his five innings of work.

Northwestern scored twice in the second inning. Baldelomar surprised the ballpark with a bunt single and Long like Baldelomar's idea also reaching on a bunt single. Freemyer knocked Baldelomar in with a single to set up runners at first and third. Long scored when Freemyer was picked off of first base.

The other Ranger run came in the seventh when Patrick Johnson singled home Flores.

Long added three hits while Freemyer and Baldelomar each added two.

Northwestern will head to Mid-America Christian for a 2 p.m. game on Thursday.

In recognition of their generous gift that led to the installation of artificial turf at Myers Stadium, head baseball coach Ryan Bay, the Northwestern administration and the department of athletics have announced that the home baseball doubleheader on Saturday, April 14 will feature a pre-game recognition ceremony for the Glass family and an Alumni Day. First pitch is at 3 p.m.

The ceremony will include university president Dr. Janet Cunningham and athletic director Andy Carter joining the Glass family on the field to honor their contributions to the program. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a Northwestern koozie. Free hot dogs will be served to the fans as long as supplies last.

“I have had the wonderful opportunity to get to know the Glass family,” Carter said. “They have made a tremendous impact on Northwestern Oklahoma State University and the Alva community. This gift provides a significant move forward for the Ranger baseball program, and we are forever grateful.”

Also, Bay and the department of athletics are honored to allow a member of the Glass family to throw out the first pitch as the Rangers take on Mid-America Christian University.

Bay invites all alumni to the park to see the beautiful new synthetic turf infield, as well as all of the recent improvements to Myers Stadium. The turf was installed just before the 2012 season began.

“On behalf of the Northwestern baseball program, I would like to thank the Glass family for providing the funding for our new turf infield,” Bay said. “This improvement will benefit our baseball team as well as area high school and junior high teams for many years to come. I am forever grateful for their continued support of our university and our program."

The infield gives Northwestern the opportunity to avoid rainouts more often and gives infielders a more natural bounce on ground balls. The turf allows for less field maintenance giving Bay and staff extra time for instructing players, recruiting and building the program. It also provides area schools a unique opportunity to play on a professional surface.

Head baseball coach Ryan Bay discusses the 2012 baseball season

<itunes:author>Allan Scarabello</itunes:author>

ALVA, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University department of athletics sat down with head coach Ryan Bay to get his thoughts on the season and upcoming events.

ALVA, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University baseball team lost a pair of games to Rogers State falling 4-0 in game one and 5-2 in 11 innings in game two at Myers Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Game One - Box Score

The Rangers left men on base early and couldn't recover dropping a 4-0 decision to Rogers State in the doubleheader opener.

Head coach Ryan Bay's squad left runners on base in five of the seven innings.

Northwestern's best offensive inning was the second when Trevor Long singled with one out and Juan Natal drove a ball to the wall in right leaving runners at second and third. Jose Maysonet was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but starting pitcher Brandon Bargas fanned George Flores and got George Mendoza to fly out to center to end the threat.

The Rangers managed just three hits in game one against Rogers State starter Brandon Bargas. Long, Natal and Mendoza had the three Ranger hits.

Starting pitcher Clay Thomas took the loss and struggled for Northwestern giving up four runs in two innings of work. Jeff Davis threw five innings of scoreless relief.

Game Two - Box Score

In game two of the doubleheader, Northwestern starting pitcher Zac Floyd and Rogers State starting pitcher Kyle Duncan locked up in a pitcher's duel that went the Hillcats' way as they took game two 5-1 in 11 innings.

Rogers State broke through against Ranger reliever Jordan Flittie scoring four times in the 11th inning with the help of an RBI-single by Randy Ramirez and a three-run homer by Cade McKewon.

The inning spoiled a sparkling performance by Floyd, who gave up just one run over six innings of work. Derek Epps threw a scoreless seventh and eighth before giving way to Flittie, who threw two scoreless innings before giving up the runs in the 11th.

Northwestern scored in the bottom of the 11th when Mendoza hit a gap shot for a double that scored Natal, but couldn't get any closer.

The Hillcats broke through on Floyd in the fourth inning with an RBI-groundout off the bat of Lance Rymel.

Northwestern answered back in the fifth with the help of a pair of Hillcat errors to knot the game at one. Mendoza singled with one out and Camilo Baldelomar pinch ran. Duncan made a wild pickoff throw to first which rolled down the right field line allowing Baldelomar to reach third.

Jose Maysonet hit a chopper to third when Baldelomar faked like he was going home which caused the third baseman to freeze and everyone was safe. Patrick Johnson's bunt single plated Baldelomar to tie the game at one. Wes Brorsen bunted for a hit but was thrown out as Johnson and Maysonet reached second and third. Rangers' leading hitter Jarad Moore was walked to load the bases but Duncan reached back for a little extra to fan Jonathan Freemyer which ended the threat.

Northwestern hits the road for three consecutive games next week. The first of those games will be at USAO at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Rangers pick up huge 4-2 win over Rogers State

<itunes:author>Allan Scarabello</itunes:author>

ALVA, Okla. - Starting pitcher Jason Martyn is from California, but he's starting to make his mark in Alva. The junior transfer from Rio Hondo Community College threw 7 1/3 strong innings against Rogers State in a 4-2 win in the opening game of a three-game set between the two teams at Myers Stadium on Friday evening.

Martyn didn't give up a hit until the sixth inning but was able to use the double play ball to weave his way out of trouble on three seperate occasions.

The Ranger offense finally got on the board in the fourth inning against the previously undefeated Shawn Spainhoward (6-1) as a two-out single by George Flores plated Trevor Long.

After Martyn escaped a first-and-third, one out jam in the fifth inning by inducing a double play, the Rangers used a little two-out magic to add to their lead in the bottom half. Jarad Moore hit a ringing double down the left field line and Jonathan Freemyer crushed a two-run homer to center field to give Northwestern a 3-0 lead.

Martyn continued to make all the big pitches for head coach Ryan Bay's squad. He struck out Randy Ramirez and got Cade Mckewon to ground out to get out of a jam in the seventh inning.

He was unable to escape the eighth inning as he left with runners on second and third with one out. Reliever Jordan Flittie intentionally walked Lance Rymel to load the bases and made the biggest pitch of the ball game to Cody Campbell, who grounded into an inning ending 5-4-3 double play.

Derek Epps picked up his third save of the season with an easy 1-2-3 inning in the top of the ninth. The save sealed Martyn's sixth win of the season against two losses. Martyn gave up two earned runs on the day while fanning five.

Natal and Moore each had two hits for the Rangers.

Northwestern (22-16, 10-7 Sooner Athletic Conference) moved in to a tie with Rogers State for fifth in the SAC.

The Rangers will play the Hillcats two more times tomorrow with the first game scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

STERLING, Kan. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University gave a fine effort while attempting to extend their winning streak to six games but ultimately fell 4-3 in 14 innings to Sterling on Tuesday afternoon.

The Ranger (21-16) defense led to the team's demise in the 14th. With two outs, pitcher Chase Randall's error allowed the winning run on base and a single drove home the game winning run.

The unearned run was an unjust way to end the game for the Ranger bullpen which threw nine consecutive scoreless innings before the 14th. Senior Derek Epps had by far his longest outing of the season throwing six scoreless innings while striking out 10 batters. Epps gave up just one hit and was the only Ranger out of the bullpen to give up any hits.

Jason Martyn, Clay Thomas and Jordan Flittie all gave up no hits in one-inning relief stints for head coach Ryan Bay's squad.

Chase Kokojan started on the hill for the Rangers and gave up three runs over four innings of work.

Northwestern scored a run in the third on a home run by George Mendoza.

The Rangers tied the game with two runs in the sixth. Jarad Moore doubled and Jonathan Freemyer singled to start the inning. Trevor Long doubled home Moore to make the game 3-2. George Flores' single tied the game at three.

Northwestern threatened in the ninth inning. Juan Natal singled and Flores was hit by a pitch to start the frame. Jose Maysonet's sacrifice bunt sent the runners to second and third, but Mendoza lined out to short and Patrick Johnson lined out to short to end the threat.

Freemyer had three hits while Moore and Natal each had two.

Northwestern Oklahoma State hurler Zac Floyd has been named Pitcher of the Week in the Sooner Athletic Conference for the week of March 19-25 as announced by the league office earlier today.

Floyd threw a complete game shutout against Oklahoma Christian. The Enid native gave up just one hit and struck out seven Eagles in a 2-0 win in the series finale on Saturday. Floyd's gem was one of three Ranger shutouts against the Eagles this weekend as Northwestern outscored Oklahoma Christian 27-0 in the three-game set.

The senior is 3-1 on the season and has settled in as a mainstay in head coach Ryan Bay's starting rotation.

The offense blossomed for head coach Ryan Bay's squad in the second game as both Jonathan Freemyer and Camilo Baldelomar each homered twice.

While the Rangers stuck the ball, the Crusader defense allowed the Rangers to get on the board in the first inning. Singles by Brorsen and Freemyer combined with a walk to Jarad Moore loaded the bases for Long who hit a ball right back to the pitcher. The pitcher threw the ball away allowing the first two runs of the game to score.

Moore singled to center with the bases loaded and the centerfielder misplayed the ball allowing three runs to score on the play. Freemyer's sacrifice fly plated the fourth run of the inning giving Northwestern a 6-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Jeff Davis was cruising right along in the early going and gave up zero earned runs of the day. The two unearned runs on Davis' watch came in the third inning after an error with two outs. Two batters later a triple plated two Crusader runners to cut the lead to 6-2.

Davis picked up the win going four innings while striking out two Dallas Christian hitters.

The Rangers got the runs back in the fourth as Freemyer connected on the first of his two home runs on the day, a two-run shot to center.

Baldelomar's solo shot in the fifth made the game 9-2.

Northwestern put the game out of reach in the sixth inning scoring five times. Freemyer hit a solo shot to make the game 10-2. With two outs, Baldelomar hit a grand slam to put Northwestern up 14-2.

The top five hitters in the Ranger order combined for 12 hits as Freemyer and Long each had three while Brorsen, Johnson and Moore each had two. Baldelomar, who batted ninth, went 3-for-3 with five RBIs.

Chase Kokojan, Jordan Flittie and Epps each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Rangers.

The Rangers will return to the field on Tuesday at Sterling (Kan.) with the game is slated for a 2 p.m. start.

Northwestern pitching dominates as Rangers sweep Eagles

<itunes:author>Allan Scarabello</itunes:author>

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University pitching staff had its best series of the year firing three consecutive shutouts against Oklahoma Christian.
ALVA, Okla - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University baseball team looked poised to complete a three game sweep of No. 4 Lubbock Christian, but the Chaparrals staged a huge comeback after being down nine runs and defeated the Rangers 18-13 at Myers Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Things looked outstanding in the early going for Northwestern (16-15, 6-7 Sooner Athletic Conference) which scored four times in the first and five times in the second inning.

Designated hitter Jonathan Freemyer doubled to plate Juan Natal and Wes Brorsen, both of whom got on base to start the game.
With the score 9-8 in the fourth inning, Flores hit one in to the jet stream which left the yard to extend the Ranger lead to 10-8.

Northwestern kept this lead until the sixth inning when the Chaparrals used three doubles to score a pair of runs which tied the game at 10.

The game slipped away from the Rangers in the eighth when LCU scored eight times with the benefit of six Ranger walks. Northwestern tried to mount a comeback in the bottom half of the inning when Camilo Baldelomar put a charge in to one for his seventh home run of the season but couldn't get any closer.
