HERBER SPRINGS, Ark. - Amanda Dixon led the Northwestern Oklahoma State women's golf team to a fifth place finish at the Natural State Golf Classic hosted by Harding University at the Red Apple Country Club. The team shot 360 on day one and 370 on day two.

Dixon shot an outstanding opening round of 76 on day one and came back to shoot an 82 in the second round.

Stephanie Martin shot a pair of 83s en route to finishing tied for 16th.

Arkansas Tech won the women's tournament and the field consisted of eight teams.

Day One Results

The women shot 359 on day one and scored 350 on day two for a 709. Amanda Dixon finished third overall shooting 159.  Dixon shot a final round 78 after shooting an 81 on Monday.

Stephanie Martin shot a pair of 84s to shoot 168 over the two-day tournament. Jacey Ford and Kayla Peters shot 187 and 195, respectively to round out the Lady Ranger scores.

The Lady Rangers return to action on April 2 at the OBU Spring Invitational.

SHAWNEE, Okla.

The Lady Rangers opened their first day of play with a team score of 385, which was good for fourth place after the first 18. The Lady Rangers improved on the second 18 firing a 369, 16 strokes better than day one.

Amanda Dixon led the way for Northwestern with a pair of rounds in the 80’s, shooting 84-82 —166. Stephanie Martin had a top 15 finish overall with a 97-89—186. Lindel Godfrey finished 23rd overall with a pair of 99’s carding a 99-99—198. Brooke Carvell placed 28th overall with a 105-99 —204. Jacey Ford rounded out the scoring for Northwestern team with a 109-116 —225 placing her 34th overall for the tournament. Kayla Peters played as the individual for Northwestern. She finished with a 112-108—220, good for 33rd place.

The Lady Rangers return to action next week. Like the men’s team, they are heading north for the Warrior Invitational hosted by Sterling College (Kan.). Tournament play is set for Oct. 10-11.

The Lady Rangers are defending champions of the Warrior Invitational. Dixon took home first overall last year as well.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (9-15-11)

The Lady Rangers opened their first day of play with a 331, only nine shots back of Rogers State after the first day. The second day was tougher on the Lady Rangers as they shot a 338. On a brighter note though, Amanda Dixon did finish first in the tournament overall.

Amanda Dixon led the way for Northwestern with a pair of rounds in the 70’s, shooting 74-77 —151. This was her first win of the 2011-12 season.

Stephanie Martin had a top 5 finish overall as well with an 84-80—164. Lindel Godfrey cracked the top ten finishing 9th overall with an 86-92—178. Brooke Carvell was right behind Godfrey in a tie for 10th place with a 91-89 —180.

Jacey Ford rounded out the scoring for Northwestern team with an 87-93 —180 tying her with Carvell and Haley Sweigart of Central Baptist for 10th place. Kayla Peters played as an individual for Northwestern, finishing with a 113-105—218, good for 14th place.

The Lady Rangers are off for two weeks before returning to action. Northwestern is set to tee it up in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational on October 12-13 at the Shawnee Country Club.

Hall, a senior from Broken Arrow, was honored with the award for the second consecutive season. A student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify for the award. Hall was one of 82 student-athletes to be selected for the honor.

“Cari’s hard work and dedication to academics has paid off as she has received her degree this Spring from Northwestern,” said head women’s golf coach Shawna Bivin. “I am very proud of Cari and her accomplishments.”

2011 Daktronics-NAIA Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete

CLAREMORE, Okla.

Amanda Dixon and Cari Hall tied for 16th, both carding a 172 in the two-day tournament. Dixon shot 88-84, while Hall shot the reverse, 84-88. Hope Conneywerdy finished in a tie for 27th with a 94-96—190, while Stephanie Martin was two strokes back in 29th place with a 95-97—192. Jacey Ford rounded out Northwestern’s scoring with a 112-97—209.

Lubbock Christian moved from third place after the first round to winning the team title with a 653 total. 

Complete Results for the 2011 Sooner Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Tournament

SHAWNEE, Okla.

The Lady Rangers held a one stroke lead after the first round, shooting a 383, and carded a 388 on the second day for a two-day total of 771. Oklahoma Baptist won the tournament with a 749.

Dixon won the tournament by 13 strokes with an 85-79—164. Cari Hall was the only other Lady Ranger finishing in the top ten, placing eighth with a 98-96—194. Jacey Ford carded a 103-104—207, finishing 15th. Hope Conneywerdy took 21st with a 116-109—225 and Stephanie Martin shot 97 in her opening round, but withdrew in the second round.

The next tournament for the Lady Ranger golf team is on April 18-19 at the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Claremore, Okla.

Complete Results for OBU Spring Invite

BARTLESVILLE, Okla.

Northwestern shot 372 in both rounds of the two-day tournament and won the event by 19 strokes. Conference foe Rogers State University took second place with a 763 total.

Amanda Dixon held the 10-stroke tournament lead as she shot an 86-88—174. Fellow Lady Ranger Stephanie Martin took second place with a 94-90—184. Cari Hall was two shots back of Martin for a fourth place finish, shooting a pair of 93’s for a 186 total. Jacey Ford and Hope Conneywerdy took 11th and 12th place, respectively, as Ford carded a 99-101-200 and Conneywerdy shot a 102-102—204. Madison Howard, who was competing as an individual, finished in 19th with a 108-109—217.

Northwestern’s next tournament stop will be in Shawnee for the Oklahoma Baptist Spring Invite on April 4-5 at the Shawnee Country Club.

Dixon, a junior from Hillsboro, Ohio, won the Panhandle State Spring Invitational with a two-round 149. She won by 12 strokes and led the Lady Rangers to the team title at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Kan.

GARDEN CITY, Kan.

Northwestern fired a 320 on day one and a 322 to wrap up the two-day tournament for a total of 642. Central Christian finished second with a 754 and OPSU shot 923 for third place.

Dixon finished two and three over par, respectively, during her two rounds as she shot a five over par 149. Cari Hall and Stephanie Martin tied for second carding a 161. Hope Conneywerdy finished in fourth place with a 171 as Jacey Ford was a shot behind with a 172 for fifth. Madison Howard shot a 202 for 11th place.

The Lady Ranger golf team will return to action on March 28-29 at the Oklahoma Wesleyan Invitational played at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville. 

Complete Results for OPSU Spring Invitational

Peters held a pair of first place finishes as a junior, winning individual honors at Mooreland and Woodward during the 2010 season. She aided the Bearcats to a first place in the regional qualifier and to the third place team in state. As a sophomore, she helped Mooreland to a regional championship and to a state runner up finish. 

“Kayla will be a great addition to our program,” state Bivin. “She is a hard worker both in the classroom and on the golf course.”

Northwestern Oklahoma State University head golf coach Shawna Bivin has announced the signing of Brooke Carvell of Towanda, Kan. to join the 2011-12 Lady Ranger golf team.

Carvell, an upcoming 2011 graduate at Circle High School in Towanda, placed third in the Chisholm Trail Ark Valley League Division IV league meet and third at the Class 4A regional meet. She took a fourth place finish at the 4A State Tournament this fall.

“Brooke is a great kid and she is going to have a real impact on our team,” stated Bivin. “She will bring a great attitude and work ethic, not only to the golf course, but to the classroom as well.”  

STERLING, Kan. – The Northwestern women’s golf team rounded out the fall season, capturing the Sterling Fall Invitational by 44 strokes, while Amanda Dixon won the tournament with a 173, putting her eight strokes ahead of the field. The tournament was held at the Highlands Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. on October 11-12.

The Rangers, who led both days, shot a 398 on Monday, and improved by 20 strokes on Tuesday to shot a 378.

Dixon, who won her fourth tournament of the fall, shot rounds of 91 and 82 to combine for a 173. Cari Hall tied for fourth with a 97-90—187, while Hope Conneywerdy came in ninth with two rounds of 100. Madison Howard finished in 12^th with a 110-106—216 and Jacey Ford tied for 13^th after shooting 110-108—218.

Northwestern will be idle the rest of the fall and pick up the golf season during next spring.

Women’s Sterling Invitational Results

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Amanda Dixon paced the Ranger women’s golf team with a two-day total of 158 at the University of Central Oklahoma Classic played at the par 70, 6,120-yard Lincoln Park East Course on Monday and Tuesday.

Dixon carded an 83-75—158 for a tie for 40^th place. Cari Hall shot an 84-87—171 and took 78^th, while Stephanie Martin fell in a tie for 84^th with a 92-83—175. Hope Conneywerdy and Jacey Ford were a stroke off each other, shooting a 182 and 183, respectively. 

Northwestern improved by 23 strokes on Tuesday, shooting a 330, after totaling a 353 in the opening day of the tournament. The Rangers tied for 16^th with Lincoln University (Mo.) as the host school, the University of Central Oklahoma, won the event with a 582. Northwestern was the only NAIA school in a field of 15 other NCAA Division schools.

Northwestern will play its final tournament of the fall season on Oct. 11-12 at the Sterling Fall Invitation at the Highlands Golf Club in Hutchinson, Kan.

UCO Classic Results

WINFIELD, Kan.

Leading the Lady Rangers was Amanda Dixon, who placed first in the entire tournament field with an 83-78--161. Cari Hall also finished in the top five with an 89-91--180. Hope Conneywerdy shot a 91-104--195, which placed her in 13th at the event. Jacey Ford shot a 102-108--210 to place her 17th, while Madison Howard carded a 110-108—218, as she finished 20th overall at the tournament.

The Lady Ranger golf team has a week off before returning to action at the Central Oklahoma Broncho Classic hosted by University of Central Oklahoma at Lincoln Park Golf Course-East in Oklahoma City on Oct. 4-5.

McPHERSON, Kan. – Northwestern’s women’s golf team won the Central Christian Fall Invitational, played at the par 70, 5,775 yard Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson, Kan., as they shot a 701 team total.

Northwestern held a 55 stroke lead on Central Christian to hold the lead after the first round and dominated the tournament with a 115 stoke lead for the tournament.

Amanda Dixon took the individual title with a 76-77—153 and was followed by Cari Hall’s 83-88—171, putting her in second place. Hope Conneywerdy carded a 92-96—188 for fifth place, while Jacey Ford finished in sixth with a 90-99—189. Madison Howard rounded out the Lady Rangers with a 101-105—206 for an eight place finish.

The Rangers will head to Winfield, Kan. on Sept. 20-21 for the South Central Kansas Fall Invitational played at the Winfield Country Club.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Ranger women’s golf team shot a 364 to finish in fifth place at the Southwestern Christian University Invitational on Monday. The tournament at Lake Hefner Golf Club was cut a day short due to rain Tuesday’s rain.

Amanda Dixon led Northwestern at the par-73, 5,931 yard Lake Hefner South Course with an 82, putting her in a tie for ninth. Hope Conneywerdy and Jacey Ford were a stroke different, as Conneywerdy carded a 91 for a tie for 27^th and Ford finished in 29^th with a 92. Madison Howard shot a 99 and Aubrey McDowell rounded the scoring for NWOSU with a 106.

The next tournament for the Ranger women is set for Sept. 13-14 at the Central Christian College Fall Invitational Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson, Kan.

DODGE CITY, Kan. – The Northwestern women’s golf team began the season with a bang, winning the Dodge City (Kan.) Invitational played at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City. Along with taking the team victory, Amanda Dixon had the tournament low, as seven of Northwestern’s golfers finished in the top 10 at the par 72, 5,879 yard course.

Dixon carded a two-day total of 80-78—158. Her 78 shot on Tuesday, tied Northwestern’s school record for lowest round. Cari Hall and Stephanie Martin finished back-to-back, as Hall shot an 89-79—168 for third and Martin recorded an 87-84—171 for fourth place. Madison Howard tied for sixth with an 89-87—176, while Aubrey McDowell shot a 94-89—183 for a 10^th place finish.

Three Ranger golfers entered as individuals, as Hope Conneywerdy carded a 90-84—174 for 5^th place, Emilee Beard finished in eighth with a 94-87—181 and Jacey Ford shot a 90-94—184 for 11^th place.

“We had a good showing for our first tournament of the season,” remarked head coach Shawna Bivin. “Our kids played through some tough wind conditions Monday and were able to put up decent scores. I was proud of the way they came out Tuesday in better conditions and lowered their scores.”

Northwestern set a new school record of lowest round for a single day, with its 328 total on Tuesday.

The Rangers won the tournament easily, being up 82 strokes on its nearest competitor, Barton County Community College.

The Northwestern women’s next tournament will be on September 7-8 at Lake Hefner Golf Course in Oklahoma City.

Howard played on the Pioneer-Pleasant Vale 2008 State Championship team and qualified the past two years for the state tournament. She was the class salutatorian and graduated with honors.

Northwestern shot a 372 on Monday and nearly the same score on Tuesday, carding a 373 for a total of 745. Stephanie Martin led Northwestern with an 88-90—178 for a 28th place finish. Cari Hall was a shot behind, with a first round of 91 and second round of 88 for a 179. Ida Arvidsson recorded a 189, while Brittany Meredith finished with a 199. Emilee Beard rounded out the scoring for NWOSU with a 209.

Oklahoma City University won the event with a 625, as Laura Jones took medalist honors with a 77-70—147.

2010 Sooner Athletic Conference Results

Northwestern downed its nearest competitor by 95 strokes, winning the tournament with a 767. Ottawa University came in second in the tournament with an 862 and Colby Community College turned in a team score of 939.

Stephanie Martin finished in second place with an 89-95—184. She was followed by Cari Hall and Emilee Beard who finished in third and fourth place with a 96-94—190 and a 99-97—196, respectively. Ida Arvidsson finished a stroke behind Beard, shooting a 99-98—197. Brittany Meridith turned in a 105-100—205.

The Ranger women will finish the season out at the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at the River Oaks Golf Club in Edmond on April 26-27.
