Angelia took the beginning of this meeting to catch a few members up on what the discussions have been in our meetings so far this semester.

We were happy to welcome Andrew Lauffer and Missy Buller back to the meetings. They were two of the reasons that an alternate meeting time was scheduled.

Fundraisers:

All members in attendance were still in agreement to play host to a “Santa’s Little Workshop” as a fundraiser in December. Angelia will proceed with getting permissions and scheduling a room. Members should keep looking up activities that could be done with children. The likely date for this would be Saturday, Dec. 11. This is the Saturday directly after finals. We would also plan to have our Christmas party on that date.
Some discussion was held on having a gift wrapping event at Walmart. No decisions were made.

Shawna also brought up the possibility of carhopping at Sonic as a fundraiser. There was some discussion. No decisions were made.

Brad brought up discussion on backgrounds for photos –two ideas for use were the giant Christmas Card or making a different background. Angelia asked the members if any had talked to friends about the possibility of taking advantage of a photography fundraiser… no conversations were reported at this time. Angelia asked about the feasibility of taking Christmas photos for residents at the Homestead…. Some discussion followed. No decisions were made.

Adjourned.

Meeting Times: The group discussed and decided to make Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m. an alternate meeting time for this group to allow others the opportunity to be involved. The first meeting to be held at this time will be Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Fundraising: Much discussion was held on this topic and ideas are still welcome, as always.

The first idea to be discussed Angelia brought to the group. A “Santa’s Little Workshop” was proposed after prior brainstorming by Shelly Wingo and Angelia. This would involve a Saturday in December (probably Dec. 11) having children come to make Christmas crafts while parents are out shopping or doing things they need to do. It’s kind of like a parent’s day out. Arts and crafts would be needed for the kids to do. We would also need a room or area to do this work – possibly the art department where the Kids Art Camp was held this past May. The area could be decorated for Christmas and we’d have Christmas music playing creating a festive environment for the kids to work. Dalton said he had access to a Santa suit which could be very helpful. Planning will begin very soon on this.

Angelia also discussed cake raffles with the group. This will take dedication from the group but is really a good option. Dates were discussed to reserve for this activity.

Kylea brought up and option for Christmas gift wrapping. It could be a fun thing to do and a nice service to others. Walmart was discussed as a possible location for this. Shawna said they would check into the matching funds possibility with Walmart. Also discussion was had for the possibility of donating part of the funds raised to a charitable group such as a battered women’s shelter or we could even adopt a family, or take an angel from the Christmas tree to help out.

Former member Kelsey Bryant suggested a photography fundraiser for the group. This would entail photographing students, employees and their families for nice holiday photos, a photo card or package or a photo in general. Members were to discuss with their friends if they might be interested in something like this. This is a good option – Thanks Kelsey.

Missy Buller suggested the possibility of selling koozies to help out.

Fundraising dinners at Pizza Hut and Gambinos were also discussed. Shawna will find out more info from Pizza Hut and Kathy McDonald will do the same with Gambinos. These are very easy fundraisers – just need a little publicity done for them.
The regular (and annual) catalog sales idea was approved again. This time the group will go with different company just for a different variety of items. More information will be released soon.

The regular (and annual) catalog sales idea was approved again. This time the group will go with different company just for a different variety of items. More information will be released soon.

Christmas Cards: The group is still very interested in continuing the Christmas Card making from last year. Card making should commence very soon.

Kylea and Brad will find out resident numbers at the Homestead, Share and Beadles.

Fun Things: Angelia handed out “Creativity Notebooks” to those present. These are to be used to jot down fun ideas to do, ideas for photos, drawings, paintings, etc. Have fun!

Angelia also presented a fun drawing activity to those who were here. Check out the drawings (modern of course) in Media Services!

Minutes -- Feb. 24, 2010

<itunes:author>Missy Buller</itunes:author>

Pizza Hut Fundraiser- March 8

Tara Woodmansee: Tara came to invite members to participate in her Honors project. She will be putting together an Anthology of creative works by Northwestern students and employees. Tara encouraged everyone to create literary, photographic or fine art pieces. Winning pieces will be published in the Northwestern News providing the written work is not too long. All submissions should be returned in black and white. Photos and artwork can also be submitted in grayscale. This is a contest and will be judged by three non-submitting faculty members. For more information contact Tara or read the article in the 9-24-09 newspaper.

Officer Elections: President - Andrew Lauffer; Vice President - Shawna Gilbert; Secretary - Missy Buller.

Service Projects:
1) Plans were made for members to place "Turn off the juice" signs in buildings to help promote saving electricity whenever possible. This project is being done in cooperation with CORE.
2) Christmas Cards -- Group decided to definitely ask the campus to be involved with this project. Card making work nights will be planned and people will be invited to help. Missy volunteered to ask Phi Delta to partner with the Art Society for delivering cards and caroling. Phi Delta has traditionally caroled at the nursing homes in Alva. Publicity will be done to invite everyone on campus to join in the fun. From the card idea, discussion was held on the possibility of a giant card to be made and placed outside the library - if permission is given.

Homecoming:
1) Any design ideas? Please turn in ideas in person or by email by the meeting next week. We'll need ideas for a Door and for a Sheet Sign. Permission has been given to use an office door of the Media Center for our decorations for the contest.
2) Bike Contest...still waiting for information on this idea.
