“The American Presidency as Seen through the Newspaper,” a program set by Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Masonic Institute for Citizenship Studies (MICS) and the Department of Social Sciences, will be held on Tuesday, March 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. on the first floor of the J.W. Martin Library.

In December, Dr. Eric Schmaltz, associate professor of history and co-executive director of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Masonic Institute for Citizenship Studies, presented an academic paper for a panel hosted by the German Cultural Forum of Eastern Europe in Potsdam, Germany.

Two faculty members from the Department of Social Sciences at Northwestern Oklahoma State University recently presented papers during the Oklahoma Historical Society Annual Meeting held at the Choctaw Casino Resort and Convention Center in Durant.

On Saturday, April 17, Dr. Eric Schmaltz, associate professor of history at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, spoke at the annual Founder’s Day Meeting to members of the Central Oklahoma Chapter of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) in Oklahoma City.

Dr. Eric J. Schmaltz, assistant professor of history at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, presented a lecture on the topic of “Germans from Russia” in Shattuck to the local Golden Spread Chapter of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Dr. Ruth Derksen-Siemens, a first-generation Canadian of Russian Mennonite descent born in Vancouver, Canada, will present a story of the Germans from Russia at Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium. This presentation is hosted by the Department of Social Sciences as part of its annual Cultural Heritage Series.

“Remember Us: Letters from Stalin’s Gulag to the Great Plains (1930-1937): A Family’s Story of the Germans from Russia,” a presentation hosted by the Department of Social Sciences at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, will take place on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m.
