Milburn Barton
Head Coach
Milburn Barton begins his 24th season as head coach of the Lady Ranger
basketball program and is in his second tenure. He holds a 372-291
(.561) overall record as the head coach of the Northwestern Lady
Rangers. During his 23 seasons spanning four decades as head coach, he
has accumulated more wins than any other coach in Ranger basketball
history.
Barton, who graduated from
Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1970, arrived at Northwestern
in 1977 after coaching boys and girls basketball and serving as the
Principal at Ames High School for seven years.
During his first season at
Northwestern, he was an assistant coach for the men’s team. The
following season, in 1978, he earned his master’s in education and was
appointed as the head coach of the women’s program.
In his 24 years of coaching, Barton
has been overly impressive. He has led the Lady Rangers to three trips
to the NAIA National Tournament and has captured two conference titles.
Barton has produced four All-Americans and was named the Oklahoma
Intercollegiate Conference Women’s Coach of the Year three times.
He is responsible for
Northwestern’s best season in Lady Ranger history, when his 1980-81 No.
1 ranked squad posted a 24-2 record and took home the state
championship. During that season, Northwestern defeated three NCAA
Division I powerhouses including: Wichita State University, Oklahoma
State University and Oral Roberts.
In 2000, he was inducted into the
Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
In February of 2004, Barton was
part of the 12th class of Northwestern’s elite Sports Hall of Fame.
Barton and his wife, JoDonna, have
two sons, Mike and Doug.

Margo
Hamilton
Assistant Coach
Margo Hamilton begins her fourth season as the
assistant coach of the Lady Rangers, a team she was a standout player on
for four seasons.
Hamilton, formerly Margo Dobson, played for Northwestern from 1993-1997.
The Canute native was a four-year starter at guard and is a member of the
prestigious 1,000 point club with her 1,251 points. Hamilton is tied for
two records, most free throws in a game (17 vs. Panhandle State in 1997)
and tied for highest free throw percentage (17/17, vs. Panhandle State in
1997). She ranks fifth overall in scoring for the Lady Rangers.
She comes to Northwestern after serving as the assistant girl’s coach at
Norwich High School (Kan.) from 2003-04. In the three years prior, Margo
was the head girl’s coach at Kremlin-Hillsdale High School.
From 1998-99, Hamilton served as an assistant coach at South Barber High
School in Kiowa, Kan. Following that season, she was a student assistant
coach for Northwestern under Joe Feely during the 1999-00 season.
Hamilton graduated from Northwestern in May of 2000 with a bachelor’s of
science in health and physical education.
Margo and her husband Paul, who also graduated
from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, have a 3-year old daughter,
Hallie, and a 2-month old son, Trace.

Brittany
McBride
Student
Assistant Coach
McBride will begin her first season as a student
assistant coach for the Rangers after having a storied career at
Northwestern.
In two seasons as a Ranger, McBride
scored 1,007 points, making her the 10th member of the prestigious 1,000
point club. She became Lady Ranger Basketball’s fourth NAIA All-American,
receiving second team honors. Last season, McBride was named to the
first-team Sooner Athletic Conference and was awarded the conference’s
Sportsmanship Award. During her junior season, Brittany was
named SAC Newcomer of the Year and
named second-team all-conference.
During the 2006-07 season, McBride
was the SAC’s second leading scorer and ranked 16th in the NAIA, averaging
17.6 points per game. She led Northwestern in points (507), field goal
percentage (46.6%), three-point field goal percentage (33.3%), rebounds
(9.2), assists (2.9) and blocked shots (0.7).
McBride played junior college ball at Northern
Oklahoma College-Tonkawa and prepped at Timberlake High School.
Melissa
Jones
Student
Assistant Coach
Melissa Jones also will begin her first season on the
Ranger sidelines after playing three seasons for Northwestern.
Jones played during the 2002-03 season and from
2004-06. She started in 31-of-61 games played and shot 35.3% from the
floor, including 45 three-pointers. Jones scored 338 points in her
three-year Lady Ranger tenure and averaged 5.5 points per game. She also
had 62 assists, 30 steals and seven blocked shots.
Jones, from Ganado, Ariz., played a
year at Odessa College before transfering to Northwestern during her
sophomore season.
