RANGER GOLF FINISHES 11^TH AT REGION VI TOURNAMENT

Bryant Briggs carded a 245 at the Region VI Tournament.

LUBBOCK, Tex. – The Ranger golf team rounded out their season with an 11^th place finish at the Region VI tournament held at the par-72, 7,010-yard Hillcrest Country Club in Lubbock, Texas on April 21-22. Northwestern collectively shot a 327 in the first two rounds during Monday’s competition. The Rangers finished with a 338 on Tuesday.

Oklahoma City University shot a tournament low six-under par 282 in the final round of the NAIA Region VI Men’s Golf Championship to win its 12^th consecutive regional title.  The Stars finished with a three-round total of 856, six strokes in front of Wayland Baptist University, which finished second.  Top-ranked Oklahoma Christian was third at 868, followed by Texas Wesleyan (887) and Northwood University (890).

Tom Shaw tied for 56^th and led NWOSU with a 79-81-83—243. Bryant Briggs trailed by two strokes, shooting an 84-79-82—245 that put him in a tie for 59^th. Taking 64^th was Brent Anderson with an 80-82-87—249. Aaron Agnew tied for 66th with a 255 and Matt Kirk carded a 276.

Brent Anderson carded a pair of 77's at the Bison Invitational to lead the Rangers and tie for 15th.

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Northwestern men’s golf team finished in tenth place at the Oklahoma Baptist Bison Invitational played at the par-71, 6,933-yard Shawnee Country Club on April 7 and 8. The Rangers finished just five strokes back of the University of Texas-Brownsville, who was in ninth place.

Individually for the Rangers, Brent Anderson led the way with a pair of 77’s for a total of 154, placing him in a tie for 15^th in the field of 59 golfers. Tom Shaw was tied for 38^th as he shot an 83-82—165. Bryant Briggs and Eddie Robinson both fired 170’s that put them in a tie for 47^th, while Aaron Agnew rounded the scoring with a 87-89—176.

The Ranger golf team’s final tournament will be the Region VI Tournament played at Hillcrest Country Club in Lubbock, Tex. on April 21 and 22.

Tom Shaw tied for 1st at the OPSU Spring Invitational played at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Kan.

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Ranger men’s golf team finished in third place at their first tournament of the Spring season with a 627 at the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Spring Invitational played at the Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Kan. on March 25-26.

Tom Shaw tied for first in the two-day event and fell in the first hole of a playoff, as he shot 75-74—149. Brent Anderson finished in a tie for fourth with a 75-77—152. Bryant Briggs and Aaron Agnew finished 13^th and 14^th, respectively, as Briggs shot a 81-80—161 and Agnew carded a 78-87—165. Matt Kirk shot a 88-94—185 that put him in a tie for 17^th. 

The Ranger golf team will next be in action on April 7-8 at the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison Invitational played at the Shawnee Country Club in Shawnee.

Brent Anderson shot a 177 at The Woods at Jacksonville in the fall tournament finale.

JACKSONVILLE, Tex. – The Northwestern men’s golf team finished in sixth place in the six-team tournament at The Woods at Jacksonville hosted by Lon Morris in its final fall tournament. The Rangers posted a 652 two-day total at the par-71, 6,387 yard course in rounds played on Monday and Tuesday.

Out of 45 golfers, Tom Shaw shot the low for the Rangers, carding an 81-74—155 (13 over), putting him in a five-way tie for 19^th place. J.J. Fournier was two shots back of Shaw, shooting a 79-78—157 and took 26^th place. Alex Isaza finished 39^th with a 87-81—168, while Bryant Briggs and Brent Anderson shot 174 and 177, respectively.

Northwestern will break until the spring, when the golf season kicks back in.

Tom Shaw tied for seventh at the OPSU Invitational.

GUYMON, Okla. – The Ranger golf team finished in sixth place as a team and Tom Shaw finished in the top ten at the Oklahoma Panhandle State Invitational played at the 6,042-yard par 70 Sunset Hills Golf Course in Guymon on October 1 and 2.

The Rangers shot a collective 613 which put them ten strokes back from fifth place Mid-America Christian. Tom Shaw tied for seventh place with a six over par, 75-71—146. J.J. Fornier was a couple strokes behind with a 72-76—148, that put him in a tie for 11^th. Alex Isaza finished in a tie for 26^th and Brent Anderson was tied for 29^th.

Northwestern will be at the Winfield Country Club in Winfield, Kan. on October 8 and 9 at the Southwestern College Invitational.

 

Tom Shaw took third place at the Central Christian Invitational.

MCPHERSON, Kan. – The Northwestern women’s golf team took first place at the six-team Central Christian Invitational on September 24 and 25 at Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson, Kan., while the Ranger men finished third.

Patti Ladd carded an 85-86—171 to take third place in the tournament. Laci Boley and Meghan Carey finished third and fourth, respectively.

The Ranger men finished in third place, behind first place Bethany (Kan.) College and second place MidAmerica Christian (Kan.). Tom Shaw shot the low round for NWOSU with a 72-81—153 and J.J. Fournier tied for fifth place, but finished sixth after a scorecard playoff.

Both the men and women will play at Sunset Hills Golf Course in Guymon at the Oklahoma Panhandle State Invitational on October 1 and 2.

RANGER GOLF TEAM OPENS 2007 SEASON AT U.C. FERGUSON CLASSIC

J.J. Fournier led the Rangers with a 227 at the U.C. Ferguson Classic.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State University men’s golf team finished 14^th at their first tournament of the 2007 season, the U.C. Ferguson Orthopedic Associates Classic played at Lincoln Park Golf Course.

The Rangers were led by J.J. Fournier’s 227, putting him in a tie for 47^th out of 72 golfers. Not far behind was Tom Shaw with a 229. Brent Anderson carded a 239 and Hayden Harris shot a 249. Curtis McMahan rounded the Rangers’ scoring with a 256.

Oklahoma City University, winners of six of the last seven NAIA National Titles, won the event with an 823.

The Ranger golf team will be back in action on October 1-2 at Sunset Hills Golf Course in Guymon.

RANGER GOLF TEAM FINISHES 11^TH AT REGION VI TOURNAMENT

EDMOND, Okla. – The Northwestern golf team rounded out the 2006-07 season with an 11^th place finish at the Region VI Championship played at Rose Creek Golf Course in Edmond on Monday, April 23. Only two rounds were completed, due to storms on Tuesday.

The Rangers shot a team score of 678 in the field of 13 teams. Northwestern was led by Curtis McCoy’s tie for 24^th with a 74-78—152. J.J. Fornier followed with an 83-83—166, that left him in a tie for 58^th. Tray Smith and Josh Small were two strokes off from each other, with Smith carding a 179 and Small shooting a 181. Chris Wright rounded out the scoring with a 97-97-194.

NORTHWESTERN GOLFERS TAKE 11^TH AT BISON INVITATIONAL

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Ranger golf team finished in 11^th place out of the 12 team field at the Oklahoma Bison Invitational which was held on April 9-10 at the par 71, 6,851 yard, Shawnee Country Club.

As a team, Northwestern shot a 746 and was headed by J.J. Fornier’s 78-82—160 that put him in a tie for 24^th. Curtis McCoy tied for 39^th with an 81-86—167. He was followed by Chris Wright, who carded a 100-99—199, and by Josh Small, who shot a 114-106—220.

Northwood (Tex.) won the event with a score of 601.

Northwestern will end their season at the NAIA Regional Tournament on April 23-24 at Rose Creek Golf Course in Edmond.

NORTHWESTERN MEN’S GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH AT
SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS SPRING IN

Curtis McCoy led the Rangers with 158 and finished in a tie for 11th.

WINFIELD, Kan. – The Ranger golf team finished seventh at the South Central Spring In at the Winfield Country Club in Winfield, Kansas. After two rounds, the Rangers posted a 693 at the par 72, 6463 course.

Curtis McCoy led NWOSU with in a tie for 11^th place finish after shooting rounds of 80 and 78 for a 158 total. Tray Smith tied for 24^th with an 83-84 – 167. J.J. Fournier and Chris Wright finished with a 169 and 199, respectively.

The Rangers next tournament will be April 9-10 at the Shawnee Country Club.

MEN’S GOLF COMPETES IN FIRST SPRING TOURNAMENT

Pottsboro, Tex. – The Ranger golf team opened up their spring portion of the schedule on Monday, March 5 and Tuesday, March 6 at the Tanglewood Country Club in Pottsboro, Tex. at the Pepsi Crawford-Wade Invitational hosted by Texas A&M Commerce University. Northwestern finished 17^th at the par 72, 6993 yard course.

J.J. Fournier paced Northwestern with a 82-77-82—241 that landed him in a tie for 63^rd. Curtis McCoy followed with a 82-84-81—247. Tray Smith shot a 259, while Josh Small recorded a 271.        

Northwestern’s next tournament will be on March 26 & 27 in Winfield, Kan.

RANGER GOLFERS FINISH NINTH AT SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS INVITE

WINFIELD, Kan. – Northwestern’s men’s golf team finished ninth out of ten teams at the South Central Kansas Fall Invitational at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield, Kansas. As a team, the Rangers shot an 85-over par, 661, while the host school, Southwestern College, won the event with an 11-over par, 587.

Leading the way for Northwestern was Curtis McCoy, with a 77-81—158, putting him in a three way tie for 29^th place. Justin White finished 43^rd with a 83-83—166, with Tray Smith was a stroke behind at 86-81—167. David Tresner carded an 83-87—170 and Josh Small ended with a 87-91—178. 

Northwestern will play its last tournament of the fall on October 23 and 24 at the Pratt (Kan.) Country Club in Pratt, Kansas.

MEN’S GOLF PLACES FIFTH AT CENTRAL CHRISTIAN INVITATIONAL

McPHERSON, Kan. – Northwestern finished with 640 strokes to finish in fifth out of an eight team field at the Central Christian College Invitational in McPherson, Kan.

The Rangers 80 over par put them 17 strokes back of fourth place Oklahoma Panhandle State. William Jewel (Mo.) College won the event, shooting 35 over par and finishing nearly 30 strokes better than second place Oklahoma Wesleyan.

Northwestern’s Curtis McCoy tied for seventh with a 10 over par, 150. Andrew Nicholas shot a 159 to tie for 20^th. David Tresner, Tray Smith and Josh Small finished within 10 strokes of each other. Tresner fired a 164, followed by Smith’s 167 and Small’s 174.

The Ranger golf team will resume action on October 2 and 3 at Sunset Hills Golf Course in Guymon.
