 Bob Battisti, Head Coach
Winning basketball and integrity, both on and off the
court, have been trademarks of Bob Battisti's basketball program at
Northwestern. Entering his 17th season at the helm, Battisti has been the chief
architect behind the consistent success of Ranger basketball.
Battisti is widely recognized for establishing a
strong base with his teams by emphasizing hard work, organization and
discipline. His players are also winners in the classroom. "Bob places
more emphasis on the academic success of his players than any coach I've
ever known," said Milburn Barton, athletic director.
"I want our players to succeed in life,"
Battisti said. "I've coached lawyers, teachers, executives, etc. I've
also coached players who played in the NBA. All are equal in my book."
Battisti has recorded a 304-209 record at NWOSU and
has an overall record as collegiate coach of 339-240. The Minnesota native
directed the Rangers to a school best 29-2 record in 1993 - '94. That season
he was recognized as Basketball Times NAIA National Coach of the Year.
In addition to the national honor, Battisti has
been named Conference Coach of the Year at the 1988, '92, '94, '95 and 2001
seasons. Over Battisti's tenure, his teams have won six conference titles
and played in four NAIA National Tournaments.
The 45-year-old attended Minnesota State University
(Mankato) where he graduated in 1981. He received a master's in Education
from the University of Minnesota in 1985.
He and his wife Shelly have two sons: Levi, 20 and
Cooper, 7 and a daughter, Tisha, 24.
Brian Humphries, Assistant Coach
Humphries begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Rangers. Last
season he was an assistant for Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, OK, where he
helped lead the Jets to a 17-14 season. Humphries played one year at
Southwestern College in Winfield, KS. At Burlington high school, he made the
OBCA All-State team as a gaurd. Humphries is majoring in Health and Physical
Education.
